    Hey guys,

So.. I have my feet wet, but I want them soaking. My current PC has the thermaltake aq2 in it. I thought it was great when I got it because I wanted to try out watercooling and see how I like it. Well, I like it, but that setup is far too loud for me.

My new computer I want to be very very quiet. Very quiet.

    Specs:

    2.6c P4
    ASUS P4C800-E DELUXE
    DDR550 PC-4400
    9700 Pro
    And whatever other stuff..

Basicly, I want to overclock as much as possible.. and still have the computer run as cool and quiet as possible..

I have spent hours reading and reading and reading all about watercooling stuff and I still get a little lost in what I should really buy.

My target complete price for the setup is $300-$400, I'd like to keep it more to the 300 side, but if I can get a part for a little more, with a lot different results, I'll do that.

The case, don't have one yet, I'd like something mid-tower size.. because it will be a LAN gamer pc. I like the look of the raidmaxs. But, I will get a case that works well with the w/c setup I get.

I've been looking into vapochills, but alas, the retailers in the USA love their 80% markup.

So.. if anyone could help me with a setup, that would be awesome. I'm looking to cool cpu/chipset/vid with the system. And maybe water cooling isn't the way to go, I don't know. I just want the computer to be very quiet, yet have performance too.

    Thanks -emu

    Large rads... cool enough.

I was looking at the blackice extreme two or whatever the long-ish one was.

I don't know how those perform with low cfm fans.

I dont know about the bix2 but the original had a recommended +100cfm for best performence

While the black Ice range recommend 100CFM, I think this is more a result of being able to match the performance statistics given on their site.

They will still perform well with mid flow fans, which though they won't be completely silent, will by virtue of their large size, produce a much more "bearable" hum, rather than a high pitch whine.

One thing you MUST remember. Watercooling is not the answer to everything. Without some VERY careful design, and often, a lot of money, it is still quite hard to get incredidble cooling AND silence. Though the crossover point with satisfying results and noise levels is lower than it would be for aircooling, provided you have thought things out.

Ok, so what makes noise in a water cooling system.

    The fans and the pumps.

There are ways to reduce the noise produced by the pump, such as mounting it on anti vibration mounts. There is a lot on the web about isolating pumps. It's essentially the same things you may do for hard drives.

The only way to reduce the noise of the fans without affecting cooling performance is to use larger/more rads with quieter fans used.

Adding a larger rad on the other hand will require a large case. What kind of thing do you have in mind.

Is there any performance if I were to add Rads to the loop?

Say.. 3 really huge Rads.. (I know sounds weird, but just throwing ideas out there)..

    Possible? Worth it?

    possible? anything is....

worth it?....probably not if your just cooling cpu(s) and say the gpu...

You can only cool water close to ambient then thats it...With just radiators and basic waterblocks that is :hip:

If you have more than one huge rad in the setup, it'll kill your flow rate for not much performance gain ....

Not if you run them in parallel. Two identical rads in parallel will have a lower resistance to flow than one of the same rads on it's own.
