I tried to connect my DVD player to a PC monitor, and I got a green tinted picture that scrolls across the screen very fast. I believe that this is because my monitor doesn't support sync-on-green. Does anyone have schematics for a sync separator? Is it cheaper to buy one than it is to build one? BTW, the DVD player supports progressive scan and I'm in the US. Is it correct that the DVD player outputs 640x480?
Oh, are the signal voltages compatible? I don't want to find the image too dim or clipping because the signal voltages aren't the same.
Im probably wrong so check on google: Signal voltages for both vga and svid are 0.7vP-P I think. Im not sure what would happen if you were to connect green from DVD player, to the Composite sync of the VGA? C-sync is a combination of Vertical sync and Horizontal sync on the same signal. It probably wouldnt work without seperating green from the sync... Another problem is I think NTSC/PAL does not have any form of horizontal sync because the horizontal is analoge, and has a set time between lines, so it would not be needed. A monitor would need H-sync as there is no set timing for a line - becuase of the different resolutions monitors support
It's the progressive scan output from the DVD player. The monitor doesn't support composite sync. Why couldn't they learn to just put a VGA connector on the DVD player? Nothing's simpler then "plug'n'play".
