need to know the power usage of 3x 6970's in crossfire? or the power usage of 2 gtx 580 3gb ? thanks, Luke
Depends on the rest of your system. Most reviews put the power draw of 580 SLI (entire system) at 600-700W, but Pookey's 800W unit wasn't enough for his system with SLI. Peak power draw from the cards alone could be over 600W, so you should really aim for at least 900W.
hmmmm depending on the rest of your system..... but looking at my 850W psu i would go for 2x gtx 580.... but if u want pure power than it is the 3x Hd 6970's
I think the 580 are more power hungry than 6970. Personally id be looking at 1000w for 580 and 1250w for the ati. Cos if you have the cash to buy them you have the cash to play it safe and get a massive psu
HD6970 power usage at full load: 306W http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/12/15/ati-radeon-hd-6970-review/10 GTX580 1.5GB power usage at full load: 363W http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/11/09/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-review/8 Those links also show power and temp when idle and under load for various cards
Thats total system usage @ the wall plug though, not just the graphics card. Still a sh|tload of power required for xfire/sli, regardless of how you run the numbers.
1000-1200W for 3 6970s. 850/900W for 2x 580s. You've got to remember to count the PCIe 6/8-pin connectors: does it have enough, cause you'll need 6 with 3xCF.
A very valid point. 1000+ would be the range to look at to ensure you have enough PCI-e connectors and strong enough 12v rails.
Corsair AX1200 to be on the safe side for both . It will easily accommodate any overclocking you may want to do.
Yes, you're right. It does give an indication of the relative power usage of each card though, showing that when idle the 580 uses 9 watts more than the 5970, and when loaded it uses 57W more than the 5970.
