As per the title needs a decent multiplayer co-op game (FPS ideally) that would be good for LAN gaming?

It's been ages since I last played a good co-op FPS (r6 infact) and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Normally on LAN games it ends up as an RTS fest with stuff like C&C, CoH and Sup Commander and as these are the only types of game I'm currently playing it would be nice to try something else for a change......

Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2, Armed Assault maybe?

Battlefield 2 is probably the funnest bet if you have enough to organize people into squads etc.

    SERIOUS SAM 1 or 2!

    Or NOLF 2.

I also find Sven Co-op for Half-Life very good, as is Garrys Mod for HL2. Not really a game, but very fun to piss about in

Also, check out The Hidden, a multiplayer mod for HL2. Highly reccommended.

    What *is* Garry's Mod for?

The only thing I've seen it used for is to make funny films and comic-strips. But other than that, the download takes longer than the time you would spend playing with it.

Is this the one where the is one invisible 'creature' up against a team of squaddies? Played it online - like the idea but the actual experience was underwhelming. It may work better in a lan environment, but online all the squaddies would cower in corners with no-one making a move. The only way to beat the creature is good teamplay and that simply didn't happen.

I'm with Joe on this one.

I highly recommend Sven Coop. It requires a bit of fiddling to get it all sorted out on the server and you all need a copy of half life, but once it's done you can cooperatively complete Half Life and various other missions. I play it at LANs all the time :)

Absolutely, you got comedy, big guns, loads of enemy and (I Think) upto 8 ppl can join you in your quest. Ticks pretty much all the boxes of what a C0-OP game should be I reckon.
You might want to checkout the Ghost Recon series of games. Good if you like the more tactical side of FPS gaming.:thumb:

    FPS:
Swat4, Raven Shield R6, Ghost Recon, all quite tatical games.
Battlefield all flavers, Serious Sam all flavers (lots of chaotic fun!!!), Sniper Elite (slightly old, but still good fun), Unreal tournament 2004 in some game modes like onslaught. Currently spring to mind.

    RTS:
almost all, highly recommend Company Of Heroes.

    Sims:
IL21946, great realistic flight sim from the days of WWII.

There many more, but none that spring to mind right this second, im sure other bit-techers will fill in any of the missing :) :thumb:

Garrys Mod is great. It's like a massive sandbox with lego. You can build whatever you want, be it funny comics or planes that actually fly and rube goldberg devices. Literally, you can do anything with it and its open source. I love to make arty poses in it myself, but it has a load of online custom game modes and maps available. Everything from Zombie Survival to Fruit Life.

Have to admit though, Serious Sam would get my vote. We play it in the office and it's seriously fun.

Absolutely Serious Sam, 1 or 2, first or second encounter, it's all such unbelivably good fun you can't go wrong with it, it's perfectly catered to co-op too, it's impossible for a player to be left behind or miss out on the action due to the level design and handy portals that pop up if needs be, and the sheer number of enemies means everyone can get stuck in killing 50 foot orange demons.

As a serious Lanner you want something quick and easy to set up. The bad thing about playing BF2 is map sizes. You can play in a small map with mates and bots, or a large map with just a couple of guys.
Some of the games I played a lot are Command and Conquer, AOE2 (watch it, that thing eats up the hours like you wouldn't believe), HL2 and various source games, Wolf ET and Battlefront esque games. UT 04 was also pretty fun.

Really, you want something easy, fun and very competitive.

Ooooh, now that would be ace. :)
I would personally go for BF2 or even BF Vietnam and 1942 for a good laugh.

Im looking forward to Team Fortress 2... when they finally decide to release it.

In the end we went with CoH, then some GRAW2 - which is so much fun co-oping on a LAN, especially as you can do a LAN co-op campaign!) and then we went back to an old school favorite of ours, Vietcong.

Some of the suggestions were really good, but we were limited to what games people already had or wanted to buy. Unfortunately I can not stand the CS series, and thankfully neither do my friends - It's a game I've tried to like but there is just something about it that puts me off. I think it's because I'm more used to stuff like Rainbow 6, SWAT and Americas Army when it comes to military/Police FPS's and CS seems too point and shoot. Plus i found it unbalanced and full of whiny kids (sorry).

I'm definitely going to check out Serious Sam as its not something I have considered playing yet as well as system shock 2.

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

    Blasphemer! :p

There's SpaceBuild Mod, if you throw in Phoenix pack and Conbat mod to make props destroyable, you can have space fights and stuff.

Or you can get the ZombieSurvival mod, lots of fun, it's humans vs zombies, with limited ammo which regens after X amount of time, humans gets different weapon unlocks after X kills and stuff, zombies can either be NPCs, or humans who get killed by a zombie.

I love that game sooooo much, but currently it flat-out refuses to run on my PC. Trying to do some of the maps using only shotguns (or machetes) is absolutely hysterical if you have Teamspeak going.

Mods for a mod? This could get complicated. Anyone released a mod for Zombie Survival yet?

Why has no one suggested UT2k4 yet? I loved playing it over the uni LAN especially the onslaught mode, or one of the crazy mod modes my friend introduced me to such as jailbreak.
