Next year do I... A, Go to college to do a music tech ND and work part time, earning just enough money to live on and spending all my time doing college & work. or.... B, Work full time, earn more than enough to live on, giving myself money to spend/save and only do 9-5 mon-fri, leaving the rest of the time to do cool stuff (and actually start gigging regularly again) also giving more time for my music. Nyargh :/ *n
I haven't had regularly free weekends in over two years PLUS!!!! The really important bit - B lets me afford broadband *n
i did college for 1.5 years then thought it was **** and dropped out and now at uni /me dosent smile enuf either hmmmm im biased toward college :GRR: @ friends fammily and parents. college = harder work now but usually a better wage in the end. work = easier but lower max wage (possibly) i dont know how much the music qualification makes a diff tho as im a science / computing / maths person :-/ if the qualification wont do much for u in the long run go for b if it will do a lot go for a
Definately A. If at some point, you want to support a family, college is a definate help. Of cource, B sounds tempting...
I've already been at college. The music tech course I would only do to further my own understanding of the subject - I know that there are NO employment possibilities at the end of it (the job market is completely saturated). I don't want to have children so that is one financial burden that I don't have to worry about. Likewise, I don't want to get married (I'll happily spend the rest of my years with one person but i just don't see the need to have a bit of paper to prove to them that i love them ). 9-5 mon-fri @ £6.50/hour (callcenter job) = £260 (£200 after tax). Or a shop job @ £4-6/hour = £160-240 (£130-180 roughly after tax) I need to budget for £70 maximum per week (which would entail working ~20 hours dependant on job...on top of 24 hours of college lectures plus the 45 minute commute to college :/). Option B is looking far more attractive. I'm currently on £4.605/hour working at safeway and I can easily get a transfer to a store in newcastle (where I'm moving to) and go from there. I'm going to be sharing with two close friends for the year and we're looking at places with rent of ~£400-450/month. *Runs in small circles* *n
And this is UK college. Not US college which is, infact, university... .....Those ker-a-zee Americans *n
I'd go for your option B, option A sounds pointless if there's no job opportunity at the end of it. Go to newcastle and enjoy spending crazy amounts of money on fun stuff. philth
*Starts list* Widescreen TV. Nice amp & proper 5.1 for my PC (as opposed to the stereo expanded to surround & LFE through my DVD Player that I have just now.) Broadband Enough HDD space to rip my CD collection as *.wav . *n
