    Hi,
I have a bit of a problem and I'm hoping someone will be abble to help me or point me in the right direction!!
I need to send messages (like net send) to a diferent building (but on the same domain) however there are 2 routers between the building and because the routers don't broadcast net send doesn't really work!!! I don't really want to open any ports on the routers because of spam!!
I think its possible to write a vs script using the net send API but I'm not really sure how? Would anyone have any ideas on how can I use net send through the routers??

    Thanking you in advance

    Miguel

    Welcome to the board.

What your trying to do , i dont think will be possible without taking the filter off.

I'd imagine the routers have been set up to stop broadcast traffic , you might (if the router's are good enough) allow certain devices to send broadcast traffic over the link.

You could setup an IM solution.

i dont know if the program is still around but winpopup worked on the same principle dunno if its just a windows version of netsend so it will be blocked by your routers again but you could give that a go instead.

planki if i understand miguel correctly thats of no use at all!

If its stopping the broadcast packet, its not a good idea to send individual ones to each machine, as the network overload would be imense (i am guessing its a large network).

Imo the best way would be to configue the routers/switches better. Most of them you can set a scope for the broadcast based on the origen.

    What make/model are they?

If your network is set up resonably then you should safely be able to open the port. Just make sure your firewall/gateway blocks the ports from the outside world and it should be fine.

With this said most routers will not allow any broadcast packets to go through them as this is part of there job (and is the main difference bettween a switch and a router)
