Hi guys hope you can help me out. A few weeks ago I bought a router of one of the bit-tech members. Now dont get me wrong the router works fine, infact im using it right now to connect to the net.

I've just got one small gripe with it, when I connect phone line to the adsl port on the router, a little green light SHOULD come on right? To show an adsl signal has been found and all is well. Now I do get this light but only after connecting the cable 20 maybe 30 times!! And that cant be normal can it?

At first I thought it might have been cable attenuation since the cable is about 10m long, but it does it with the 1m cable that comes boxed with it. Then I though it could be a break in both cables, but what are the chances of having 2 broken cables? Plus once I do establish a connection its VERY stable and the ping is very low! It does seem to have a better chance of connecting if I unplug the router and hold down the reset button for 10 seconds, it'll usually connect after 5 attemps or so but that means having to configure all my settings :S Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Yep, 'twas me what sold it. Coincidentally, I had it on a 10m cable, too. The cable that was in with it, is it two wire or four wire? Because I remember having bother with a two-wire cable, then got the 10m four wire cable and all was fine. Iirc, mine took perhaps half a minute for the light to come on, synced fairly quickly, then connected to my isp account a few seconds after. In fact, I think the sync light flashes orange first, then green for a solid connection.

I certainly didn't have to reset it every time. Have you changed the microfilter? Even if it's a damn good one, they still break. Had one go at work once a fair while ago, had us scratching our heads at first.

indeed it was you. I didnt wanna mention any names incase people thought you were selling dodgy gear if you wanted to sell something in the future :)

The cable that comes with it is a 4 wire one, but the micro filter only uses the middle two which is cool cos in the manual it says the router only uses the middle 2 also. Yeah your right it does flash amber for a few secs while it sync's the syncing is damn quick when it works and the connection is of a very good quality.

The filter is quite old i've had it connected for quite a while, since the day I got broadband infact which is probably 2 years or so! Same with the cable, thats been connected for the whole time i've had BB.

hmmm half a minute eh? What i've been doin is connecting the cable then if the light doesnt come on I disconnect it right away without waiting!! On my old modem the light used to blink if there was no cable and when it sensed the adsl line was plugged it, it went solid green right away. But you had to wait for a few secs to dial otherwise it wouldnt work (probably while it was sync'ing) thats probably the issue, i'll disconnect then wait a few secs and see if that works :thumb:

    O/T
Indeed. It would seem that way at the moment, Washfordmonkey had two boards off me recently and both are failing to work for him. That's to be resolved though as I'll be sending a brand new board to him asap. At least most of the stuff from my recent FS thread has turned up and worked!

Anyway, if it's causing you grief and hassle, give me a PM and we'll see what we can get sorted. Seems strange though that I never had any bother with it at all.. in fact, it's the best router I've had so far. The only reason I stopped using it was because I was after an all in one with wifi.
