I wonder if anyone can help please
Ive got an Epson R220 printer hooked up to one of my pcs, it is set to share with all the other windows pcs in the house and works fine.
I follwed this link here http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html to set up my ibook g4 to share the printer
it prints in the dialogue box for gimp but then i get this error in the progress box

so in the printer dialogue box i see
    Gimp-Print ready then

    Connection failed with error
NT Status Bad Network Name then

Unable to connect to Samba host will retry in 60 seconds

i followed the second page of the above link for problem solving and windows firewall is set to allow printer sharing

Im stumped but im sure someone on here will have had the same problem

    hope you can help
    thanks

Printing across a mac/pc network is hard than it should be its one of the issues I've had in my network.

What I would suggest you do is leave the network printer name as the default install name and don't change it. Thats usually what that error message means. If you've not changed it. Try shortening it to a few letters like for a dos machine.

If you are in any doubt reinstall the printer and leave the network name as whatever it says and try again.

There's a topic just a bit further down the page, and you should be able to fix this, although I'm not sure I've ever seen that particular error message. But try the link and it should work. Linky. I think my post at the bottom should solve all your issues. If you have any more, feel free to PM me, I've done this a few times.

There's nothing to stop you using a different name for the printer, but if you're using special characters, I wouldn't. Also whenever you change network names, make sure you restart everything on the network, as there is sometimes some latency in the name changing and that will only confuse matters.

EDIT: You can certainly get this to work, I use my Epson r200 attached to my Windows XP Pro PC, from my Powerbook running Tiger. It all works fine now it's set up :)

EDIT 2: You can install the epson drivers onto the iBook even if you're not using it directly attached to printer via USB. You don't need to do this as the gimp drivers work very well, but for borderless photo printing and stuff the epson drivers are better :thumb:

Can you see the printer in Finder (in the network bit)? I'm assuming you can because you've managed to add it somehow. And can you print from another computer?

thought about that disabled the 3rd part firewall and had printer sharing listed as an eception in windows firewall the only thing would be the wireless router firewall but then it lets all the other pcs communicate but thanks for the input :)
