I have a laptop connected to a wireless router at home. Then another desktop connected to the same router in a wired way. And both are running win 7. Then i clicked start, -> documents > then network (network button was found on the left side of the screen) i did this from the laptop. when i do that i can see the name of the laptop and the dektop. i doubled clicked on the name of desktop. Then it is asking me for a username & password? Is this the useraccount username and password or something else? But i have only the admin account on the laptop without a password. So what should i do ? And then i did the same thing from the desktop. When i clicked the network as i did on the laptop, i can see the the laptop and the desktop. When i doubled clicked on the laptop name it gave me an error message like this. "Windows cannot access \\Home laptop Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve the problem, Click diagnose" When i clicked diagnosed it says "troubleshooting couldnt identify the problem" So can someone please tell me how to correct this?
you dont have file sharing set up so you can see other PCs but no access them. set up a home group and set a password then join a home group from the otehr laptop/PC using that password. heypresto your done
Thanks people. I created the home group and connected the laptop to it. Now i can access stuff on my desktop from the laptop. But i cannot acces the laptop from the desktop. Same error message as earlier. "Windows cannot access \\Home laptop Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve the problem, Click diagnose" Clicked diagnose but no luck.
When you open My Comp or whatever, you sure you can see the laptop under the HomeGroup section on the left?
Have you tried calling the laptop something like Home_Laptop - Network does sometimes halt at multiple words.
