    Help!

I have three computers on a network. The first two was a xp pro system and a windows 98 system. Those two could share folders with no problems and had folders that appeared in the "my network places". I just hooked up my new laptop with windows xp pro and whenever I try to access the other xp system it tries to ask for some login name and password which I have no idea what it can be!

    Can anyone help me?

Have you set permissions for the laptop on the first XP system? Depending on the way that you have file sharing set up, you may need to log on as an authorised user to access shared files from another computer, and by the sound of it you haven't got permissions for the laptop set up properly.

the logon name a password would be = to the the username and password of the person who shared the file.

try the administrator user and password. it sound like you're trying to access the c$ share, which only members of the administrator group can get at. Have you got another share on there too? try accessing shared docs and othere shares (make them) etc.
