    Dell UltraSharp 2209WA

just saw this on the dell website today.
it has an IPS panel, which apparently is the best and its $499, which isnt bad.
what do you guys think? should i get one?

if not, what others do you guys recommend, I cant find monitors that look good in NZ

Good monitor, but $500 for a 22" in very steep imo. That's what you should have to pay for a 24" or even bigger.

Samsung has nice displays at the $200 mark, too.

sure thing, I didn't notice it was the new zealand website. That said I would pick it up, dell usually has very nice displays. I loved my 19" with an AUO panel.

Actually, it's an eIPS panel. ;) I was reading about this monitor last week. Apparently, it has reduced color reproduction, but it's an 8-bit panel with a 6ms response time on it. I guess it has all the strengths of IPS with none the weaknesses, at least according to the specs. If it does what it says it will do, someone like me who is an extremely picky designer and expects the displays to be awesome would love this thing as a gaming monitor.

$500 seems quite a lot, shop around & you might find something better [IMG]

Otherwise there's always the HP LP2275W. It's got an S-PVA panel, but that's not really a detriment.

Interesting bit about the new e-IPS panel. If reduced colour fidelity is the only drawback in regard to "normal" IPS panels, then I hope we're going to see a flood of new e-IPS based monitors, considering that TN panels have *no* colour fidelity. :)

Over at that hardness forum ;), people are stating this monitor can be had in the States right now for $230 shipped if you call in to order it. I'm sure this will go away really soon though. $300 for it on the website. But still a good deal for an IPS derivative. If I didn't already snag a 32" FullHD HDTV I'd go for it.

$299 for an IPS-based TFT versus something in the $300 range that's TN-based? LOL. Granted, depends on what you want and how picky you are. I paid $600 for my 2005FPW at the time, and that was a great deal for an IPS-based TFT.

Dell Denmark has decided to sell the 2209WA for about €450. Sorry, but that's way overpriced for this monitor. I could get a BenQ FP241W (P-MVA) for €360 or an LG W2600HP (S-IPS) for €500. Well, it's not the first time ordinary customers get shafted by Dell Europe/Denmark.

I'd rather go with a Samsung or BenQ in this case, that's still quite a bit.

Although I'm not too sure about the color reproduction on e-IPSes.
