So, I'm building a new rig. Reusing some of my old parts, PSU, 8800GTX OC2 gpu's. Would like to get a bigger monitor. I'm currently using a Samsung Syncmaster 226BW which has been a great monitor, but I'd like a couple more inches (sorry!). The Dell Ultrasharp U2410 while a stunning screen, is just too expensive. Unfortunatley monitor reviews are a bit few and far between (it's not just Bit-Tech) despite a huge number of new models coming out in the last 24 monthes. Anyways enough whining. I've been looking at the Samsung Lavender SM-2450H and was wondering if it would be a worthwhile upgrade? It's a brand I'm familiar with, and have had a good experience with. Yes it's a TN, but TN's have come a long way in the last 3 or 4 years, and IPS panels are just TOO expensive, plus I'll be using it mainly for gaming. So, what do you guys think?

The U2410 comes down in price every now and then. In Canada, it already drop several times last year from 750$ down to 500$. When I got it, I called and even then negotiated a little more on the price to get it at 490$.

TN hasn't improved much over the last 3 years. Personally, I love my U2410, a perfect replacement for any CRT users, and I find it that it's worth every penny of the 750$ price.. as I got it in special.. well it makes it even better.

Hey Goodbytes, thanks for the reply. It never gets that cheap here in the UK. Even B grade ones are still £350, and that's still £100 over my budget.

To be honest, a 22" IPS would be a more worthwhile upgrade than a 24" TN, but as they say, you can never have enough desktop real estate. Would you be selling the 22" Samsung? If not, a dual screen setup (TN+IPS) would be even more awesome.

Maybe a few ?s over your budget, but definitely worth it...the Dell a few posts back will be over your budget once delivered...the NEC is also being a better screen! ;)

What about the Dell SP2309W? The Bit Tech review seems positive, and it's reasonably priced

I'm in the same position as you - ideally looking to spend £200-£230 ish, but at the same time I can't help thinking that the EA231WMi might be a better option for that £80 or so extra. One other thing holding me back is the lack of an HDMI port - I freely admit I'm completely clueless about this, but are any of the other ports viable option for PS3 gaming*? And for just PC and console gaming, is it still a better monitor than the SP2309W?

You can get DVI to HDMI adapters. I've looked at the SP2309W too, there's also the G2410 which got a very good review from CNET (Australia).
