I'm a bit confused, I got myself a 320MB BFG 8800GTS OC and it says so on the box but when I checked the System Information in the Nvidia Control Panel, as well as the Adapter under Display, and through AutoCAD's detection, it says I've got 640MB.. am I a lucky son of a bitch or is this a mistake like I think it is..

Sadly don't have it on my PC since everything else is somewhat old (AMD 3000+, 1Gb, 200GB, yawn..). Will try that out and post results. Thanks :)

Take the card out and have a look on it. Usually they have a sticker on them with a model code or something similar. :)

Too lazy to take it out, but I checked DXDiag and it says 640 there, I think that may be why the others are listing 640 too, but if it is indeed 640 I guess I'm a happy person. FYI 3dMark is taking forever to download and Steam is taking ages to update for some reason :(

Well don't take it out. Have a look on the card, it's usually on the back somewhere.

Heheh, fair enough. That's the only way to really confirm it though (other than seeing a report at POST, dunno if they do that, but most cards haven't for years). Software's really unreliable.

Out of interest, where'd you get your card from? :naughty:

There are loads of 'SysInfo'-type programs out there which should be able to tell you how much RAM it has?

My personal favourite is Everest Ultimate Edition... but there are plenty of FREE programs which might be able to tell you - such as Belarc Advisor, Fresh Diagnose, PC Wizard 2006, Simple Eye, SIW, System Spec?

Those last three don't even need installing! Just download them, then run them :thumb:

dxdiag shows this GTS as 320mb. Maybe you got lucky and they sent a 640 mb card instead of the 320?
What does the label on the rear bottom of the card say? This one ends "320GT" if your's mentions 640, would indicate its a 640mb card.
Also, what are the default card clocks?

I was under the impression that windows vista assigns memory to different places where needed, giving false reading! Maybe not false but you get my drift.
If I do a DXDIAG it tells me my 7800GTX with is 256MB & I know this for a fact is actually 540 MB!

Hey guys, I'm running XP SP2 and the default clocks are 550/1300, which is what is stated for a 8800GTS OC 320MB, I have not checked if they are the same for the 640 setup though. Thanks Hazardous for the App links, I'll try them when I get back and update everyone.

the only way to really be sure is to look at the manufacturer/product code on the sticky label on the rear of the graphics card. But it sounds like you might just have got rather lucky!

:thumb: Best way would be to fire up a game or benchmark in which the 8800GTS_320MB has a distinct perf deficit to the 640MB version; eg. F.E.A.R. 1600x1200 4xAA+16xAF Max Quality where the 320MB version drops to 7950GT/7900GTX levels (while the 640MB version is at X1950XTX levels). If you can find someone (or a review) with a similar setup to yours you could work out from the all important real-world benchmarks whether it has 640MB. For reference C2D @3.0ghz & 2GB with FEAR's built-in "test settings" benchmark gets around 45fps (320MB) and 60fps (640MB).

Well I tried SIW and System Spec and they both registered 640 MB, I guess I'm happy!
