Saw an add for this on BBC1, and it looks pretty damn interesting. It chronicals a mythical 10 year manned mission to the planets. The footage I saw on the trailer looked pretty impressive, and the blurb on the BBC Shop (Yep, there's a DVD coming out, and a book. Dont you just love Auntie's marketing machine? ) makes it sound like a cross between a documentry and a dramatic series. Anybody moles out there that work for the Beeb? if so, when it's due to start? All the trailer said was 'comming soon', and the website says sometime in Nov. http://www.bbcshop.com/invt/bbcdvd1500&bklist=icat,5,,11,science,831 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/spaceodyssey/
Today's SFX? you obviously don't subscribe... I've had mine for a week! (The ad was what put me onto the it in the first place, then I saw the trailer on TV)
I've just seen the trailer and it looks damn impressive. Real good CGI (As usual from the beeb ) and should illustrate some possible concepts for future missions.
Looks like it's premiering on Nov. 9th, (Next Tuesday!) according to this interview with one of the people responsible for it: http://www.newmars.com/archives/000131.shtml I'm a little suprised that the series only clocks in at two hours long. That's an awful lot to squeeze into so little time. I guess that means 4 episodes at 30 mins each. That or two hour-long eps. Although at the end of the interview they do start talking sequels...
Right, according to the latest Radio Times, it's a two 1 hour episodes. And they coppied the Apollo 13 aproach of building a set in a cargo plane and flying parabolas to get the zero-g!
From the interview linked above.... "CR: Yes delighted. We worked hard on the stills pictures in the book for around 6 months as the series was being filmed, to get the look we were after before embarking on the digital effects for the series. All the credit for the incredible pictures in the book must go to an exceptionally talented team of photoshop artists at a company called Framestore CFC in London. Two brothers in particular - Daren and Jason Horely created most of the stunning Mars images which you suggest in your review might be images stolen from the future. I do hope you are right." My old man works for framestore in London, im so proud Have been looking forward to this for a while, have heard some good things about it. I always known it as walking with spacemen
So what did we think? I kept expecting someone to die, everytime realising I wasn't watching 'Mission to Mars'. Pretty good overall though!
Just finished watching it, pretty awesome. I'm glad it didn't get tangled up in the "this is how the technology will work" stuff, it just assumed that the tech was there and it worked. Good view of the future, I can't wait until part 2
I've just watched it - Damn good IMHO. Yes there's some drama in it, and it's the better for it. I don't think John the flight medic is going to make it back, as it's obvious he's had a radiation overdose. The beeb website has some cool pics of the Pegasus and the landers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/spaceodyssey/
dam i missed it, really wanted to watch it aswell, jsut have to wait for the dvd to come out , unless theres a repeat anytime soon.
Yep he's a gonner I can't believe that non of them have bought it yet. Did they mention anything about the actual method of propulsion? The timescale would suggest they're travelling exceptionally quickly.
Meh, i was nit picking all the way through :/ Wasnt great, i lost interest. CG was crap compared to walking with dino's.
