Hello I was just looking for some advice on a new build i'm considering buying , I'm going to need everything except pepherials such as a mouse & keyboard. Will be used for a little bit of everything and i've got an overall budget of £700 (may be able to squeeze in a few extra pennies). Here's how it's looking so far : Cpu : AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 - £89.27 Motherboard : MSI 770-C45 AMD - £59.99 Ram : OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz - £61.99 Gpu : Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4890 - £126.99 Case : Antec 300 - £44.99 Psu : OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w - £62.99 OS : Windows 7 - £65.99 Hard drive : Western Digital 500gb - £37.99 Hsf : Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 - £16.32 Dvd : Sony - £15.99 Total : £582.51 This leaves me about £100 for a monitor , which i'm still undecided on Feeling abit guilty about choosing a 4890 , i could spend the extra money spent on that elsewhere. Looking ok ?
For £100 your gonna struggle to get a decent 22" monitor. Any resoultion smaller would seem a waste for the HD4890 that a HD4870 1GB couldn't handle with ease. Very good build non the less. If you want to cut back more you could also go for the Phenom II x2 550 mind you £90 for a tri core is steal.
Yer , I thought that might be a problem , what's the cheapest decent 22" monitor ? I may be able to stretch my budget The 4890 is only £15 more than the 4870 so it's seems abit silly to not get it. Thanks
You would need someone else to advise you there. Tho bit-techs guide to PC building might help a little. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2009/08/20/does-nvidia-have-a-future/2 Abit old now but HannsG HG221AP 22-inch widescreen monitor UK Price: £99.95 (inc. VAT) or Viewsonic VX2260WM - 22-inch Full HD monitor UK Price: £171.81 (inc. VAT) They where both recommended if your budget is squeezed. certainly manage gaming but lacks DVI. Hope that helps
Have you seen both of those screens in the flesh ? The Viewsonic VX2260wm 22" can be had for £140 now , but the 1920x resolution seems a bit high for a 22" monitor Thanks for your help again and sorry for the slow reply Edit : Now reading the Bit-Tech review of it lol
It's not a problem going slightly over budget , I doubt reducing the PSU would save me much anyway. I'm just trying to keep it to my budget so I don't keep thinking "well , the next best thing is only £20"
haven't seen them in the flesh myself but I haven't been looking for a monitor tbh =p lol. Higher resolution is good tho. More pixals, more detail but unfortunatly more work for your graphics card. If you need to cut back, drop down to a 500W PSU, thats all you should need, and you can drop the tri core to the phenom II 550X2. Itll run that card fine. ATM im holding out until Phenom II Quads drop closer to 100 before upgrading. Hopefully by then Ill actually need it lol
