Hey all I just built the following new system:

intel i7 930 @ stock with stock heatsink
    Gigabyte ga-x58-usb3
    corsair ddr3 1600MHZ fan,
1tb samsung HDD, (from old build)
    FSP everest 1010w PSU
ATI 4850 GPU (from old build)
LG sata Dual layer dvd writer.

I've been getting alot of issues with this in the past few days.

    1. it wasnt recognisnig the RAM properly and when I set it to read from the SPD it wouldnt boot, got that fixed by reinstalling windows,

    2. It doesnt like it if i try and set up a raid with a 2nd identicle HDD, windows installs but crashes on boot.

    3. yesterday when i turned on the computer it wouldnt boot and gave me a warning along the lines of system cannot boot as Overclocking settings have caused the voltage to be too high, even though I havent overclocked the system at all.

    4. turned it on today, booted to windows and it randomly turned off the system.

Any ideas what is causing these problems??

or any software I could use to find out? I've not build a new pc in years so im abit rusty

it boots fine with all 3 sticks,

currently just about to run memtest.

TBH i'm wondering if its my PSU as the voltage thing when booting makes me think it may be

Double check all your connections. I'd even re-seat the CPU and reapply the TIM just to be on the safe side. And finally reset the CMOS so that all settings have gone back to default just incase you may have accidentally changed something you didn't mean to.

I'll check all the connections as soon as memtest is finished running about 15% so far.

I'll reset CMOS etc and reseat the CPU ( didnt seat it myself it was done instore for me)

I may just take the PC down to the store and see if they can help me if i cant get it sorted myself, just want to make sure Its not something silly before I go down and get charged

well the pc is now randomly powering off so I think it may be the PSU

The PSU can cause this if it is faulty, or even just badly designed, but so can faulty RAM or CPU, or even motherboard.

RAM came up fine after 2 passes in memtest,

Currently running intel burn test on the CPU to see if thats it.

Hard drives came up grand in the Hitachi drive fitness test

if they come up fine its defo the mobo or more likely the PSU stupid FSP everest, that'll teach me not ot buy corsair

taking it down this afternoon, just finishing off running intel burn test and its all fine even on maximum and 5 cycles.

Definately the PSU or the mobo. Could be up to a week before they can test it though

things like this can be difficult to diagnose without a lot of spare components. take it back and let them worry about it
