I've just finished putting together my first build and I've got problems. Asus P6t Deluxe v2 Core i7 920 Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 Sapphire Ati 4870 x2 Enermax 85+ 1050w Sythe Mugen 2 Antec 1200 Samsung F1 When I power up everything seems to start ok, fans, PSU, mobo etc but after a few minutes it reboots itself and then keeps rebooting every few seconds. If I leave it for a while and try again I'll get a few minutes operation before it starts rebooting. Does that imply a heating problem? The BIOS says CPU temp is 36c and mobo at 32c. So I've stripped it down to the bare minumum: PSU, mobo on the table (i.e. no case), CPU+cooler, RAM, spare 9400GT GPU (which I know works), no HD. same problem. First time I did this outside the case it remained powered up for 30 minutes which is the longest yet, but since then nothing. I've also tried running it with 0, 1 or 2 sticks of ram, different combos. I've tried reattaching the cooler and I've also tried the Intel cooler. The only spare PSU I've got is 375w. Would that be enough power to run a test with the 9400GT? It's all from Scan so I guess I can return it, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
kk first plan of attack is everything plugged in recheck double check etc. have you plugged in the 8pin power as well ? tried different RAM slots ? with the rebooting is it posting ??? or booting to OS then rebooting ???
yep, I've unplugged and reconnected all connectors several times. I've tried each of the primary ram slots individually, with different sticks. Sometimes it posts and stays up for a few minutes, but when the reboot cycle starts it doesn't get that far, just a few seconds between reboots. No OS installed yet, it hasn't been up long enough....!
Tried a different BIOS? Full clear CMOS? (Unplug the PSU from the wall, remove the battery, flip the clear CMOS jumper/switch/whatever and leave it for at least 10mins).
I had tried clearing the CMOS, but only for 30 seconds or so. I've tried it now for a full 10 minutes, no luck sadly. Not sure what you mean by a different BIOS: flashing the latest version? I'm not sure I can do this unless it posts, which it currently is not. There's a warning in the manual against resetting during the flash process so I'm worried about causing damage if I try this... PS. Thanks for the replies guys!
i tihnking of a few problems here. 1) the PSU is faulty and not supplying the correct voltage required to mobo, CPU, GPU etc. 2) the mobo is faulty. anyway to change the PSU - not sure that 375W is enough although with nothing attached it should be ok providing it has the correct cables such as the 8pin and 24pin
hmm, slightly worrying as im getting the same mobo from scan in a few weeks. hopes i font come up against any probs
should be fine, these things happen not everything works 24/7 and stuff can be missed on QC on the manufacturing process.
