Moving from UK to Bermuda on 1 Dec.

I know components are very hard to source in Bermuda therefor I need to build now so I can take it with me. I am looking for a quiet gaming rig. Will need the full kit and caboodle. Budget is £1,500 max (less if compromise is small). I am no expert but no dunce, have built PCs in the past (a few years ago though). Bermuda has US style voltage...so power supply needs a dual voltage switch (or I buy everthing else except this and just buy this over there). Never tried over clocking so probably will stay clear of this (unless I am persuaded otherwise).

Advice and prices will be greatly appreciated. I have op system and office (Windows 7 ultimate and Office 2007 enterprise).

    Thanks for anyone who helps.

Before anything, what will be the purpose of your rig mate? Gaming, editing etc? If gaming, WHAT games? or games to come?

I personally reckon it's going to probably go along the lines of an i5 set up, or i7.

-Case: All in prefernce, if you want a mid tower or high tower, look on www.scan.co.uk (best place to buy pc parts in the UK. Take a look on cases and post a few you like and I'd give advice on which maybe best or someone will.

    -CPU: i5 750

-Motherboard: MSI GD65 or some board like that (on this motherboard you can do a one button overclock on the motherboard in 1 second it will overclock your rig to around 15-20% (you can get more from a manual overclock, but it will be a nice jump in processor preformance.

-GPU: 5870/5850, or GTX260/4890 and wait for next year nvidia and ati DX11 battles.

    -Ram: anything 1600mhz 4ghz.

-CPU cooler: hard one right now, theres meant to be a Titan Fenrir 1156 bracket out soon, so I'm personally waiting for that.

-Hard drive: Sprin point f3 1tb

-DVD-RW/ROM any really (sata) or blue ray - I'd personally wait till there cheaper.

-Power supply:... depends how many case fans, extras, overclocking room, if you want to go SLI/Crossfire in future.. etc.

    Or...

    CPU: i7 920

    Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe

Ram :6gb ddr 1600mhz(most likely corsair).

    CPU cooler: Titan Fenrir

    and the rest the same..

the i7 is slightly more expensive, yet on your budget I reckon you can fit it, and if you plan to go sli/crossfire one day it might be a better option..
    ___

Would you require a monitor? what " if so? 20" or 24" are your best options.. i'd personally say 24".

(Sorry I cant provide links etc right now, just search for them on scan.. they fit your budget, just a bit rushed right now so I dont have time to properly structure this advice.. someone else will also give their input.).

Do you have a monitor?? Mouse, keyboard?
(or must we detract this from 1.200 pounds sterling ?)

No monitor, no mouse, no keyboard. The only things I have are the op system (and office).

Would like a sizeable monitor if possible. Also, concerned about the US voltage requirements of the PSU.

Forgive me to pry into you private sphere, but how do you intend to ship a LCD monitor to Bermuda?? (I verified and I see that this modern monitors work with 90-265 VAC (volts))

    platform:
Intel Core i7 920 (DO stepping) 200 GBP
    motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58 UDR3 132 GBP (or Asus P6T Deluxe V2 200 GBP)
Gigabyte would suit all your needs (I don't believe you'll throw an overclocking competition)
You don't need an extra cooler since you won't overclock

    Graphic card:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 140 GBP

    Memory (OCZ)
6GB DDR3 around 60 GBP (you don't need the latest, since there is practically no performance difference)

    PSU
be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650 W or equivalent from Corsair TX650W cca. 100 GBP

An optical drive for 16 GBP

    Storage
    Seagate 7200.12 500GB 36GBP

Chassis for 90 GBP (Cooler Master 922)

We are at 774 GBP (and we have an awesome built; in January you can sell your Nvidia and buy yourself an 5870x2)

Now; a TN monitor for 200 GBP (24 inch 192x1200); a good mouse for 50 and keyboard for another 50.
    We are at 1.074GBP.

    Will this do?

My other half has a job out there. They will pay for some household goods to be shipped out.

I needed the techno know how that these forums provide so I really appreciate the recommendations. I think I'll go I7. Is a SSD worth trying to fit in?

    SSD? Certanly. A 80GB Intel Postville G2 X25-M. around 170GBP Scan.co.uk (maybe less)

You can leave out the HDD since I doubt that you'll fill or need more than 80GB (unless you won't go pirate (Bermuda) and download films,... without erasing them at the end).
The PC is just more responsive with a SSD.

I would go for that HP monitor.
If you want graphic perfection you'll have to dig dip in the wallet/purse; HP 2475w.

If you want to know something else or expand a component, change chassis,.. just put it down :)

Infinite complexities about moving to Bermuda (Complex visa requirements, securing job, intereviews etc.., organising goods shipping, nannnies, nurseries etc..), I won't bore you but it is eating up lots of time.

Next project is to persuade my other half I need a new computer.

Once the above tasks are in the bag I will commence build. I will let you know how it ends up.

I'd go with what Kyocera posted, because trust me the i5 750 isn't that fantastic in gaming performance (in my experience anyway) I have an i7 860 and the i5 750 I mentioned is what a friend of mine has and I've played games on them both and the i7 thrashes it in terms of performance, maybe not when you read reviews on the i5 750 and it looking so close in the benchmarks but in terms of smoothness and overall gameplay the i7 860 I've got is way better, so the i7 920 will be even better than that.

Also a word of advice, DON'T take your pc anywhere near the Bermuda Triangle unless you want to lose it lol :D

No I definitely meant once he's in Bermuda don't take his pc to the Bermuda Triangle ;) or anywhere near unless he wants to disappear, but like Kyocera said Elladene don't book the family for the ship going through Bermuda or the plane flying over it either :naughty:.
