What is the build for? Is that your ultimate budget? Are you happy going with the noisy inefficient stock CPU cooler? Are you prepared to overclock? Some more of this info will allow for more accurate advice Points i see are: - Is it absolutely necessary to have the SATA/USB 3 version of the board when you do not have the budget for an SSD therefore making it redundant? The non SATA/USB3 version is £18 cheaper, thats a big chunk of a small budet to throw away. - I would be wary of that CPU until I'd seen some gleaming reviews. For a few quid less you can have the Phenom II X2 550(or555) Black Edition which is a proven chip and, so the board features state, could potentially be unlocked to a quad core anyway. - If you plan to do any gaming at all then you really need a proper graphics card. The second you try anything above TF2 the on board chip will not even begin to cope.
Thanks for advice, will be getting a separate graphics card latter, concerned on the cpu/mb ram options. also any thoughts for psu and case budget £320-£350 ish. have operating system, monitor key mouse etc. Thought that the pcu would work well, rather than prehaps not beeing able to open the looked cores. Cheers

If you're going to be buying a graphics card in the future, then maybe you will want to invest in a power supply that will handle that now and avoid getting the CX 430. The Antec HCG 520 80Plus Bronze at £56 is probably the cheapest high quality one you will find, but isn't available on scan atm so might have to get it elsewhere. Another possibility for a cheaper, higher power (than the CX 430) one is the Silverpower Gorilla 500W Green Power @ £50. If you want to cover yourself for almost any future single card upgrade then get the Antec Truepower New TPN-650 for £70.
A budget and what you are going to be using it for would be a great help. it will make it alot easier.
Hi, Budget is £300 £350 ish. need case, motherboard, cpu,psu ram . will have graphics card latter, so need intergrated one to start with have os, monitor etc light gaming, photoshop, etc cheers
Shamelessly stolen from another thread but what about this... Yes it doesn't have USB3.0/SATA 6GPS but ask yourself do you really need it. In 12-18 months pop in a Phenom II Hex Core (as bulldozer will be well established) and it'll give it a new lease of life! Or if you want to spend a bit more what about putting in a AMD Athlon II X4 quad.
i will be using the intergrated graphics card for a month or so, so would prefer a high spec intergrated card, but you are right about not having the latest board. looking a amd phomen 11 550 be with possible unlocking . again thanks for all your help. mego
How about an Intel Sandy Bridge build? edit: seems ebuyer is a bit cheaper, this includes a 1TB HDD: Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz Socket LGA 1155 6MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor 251595 £148.98 Coolermaster Elite 430 All Black Case With Elite 500W PSU 235611 £49.98 Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache 173804 £39.99 EXTRA VALUE 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory Kit 1.5V CL9 192049 £31.25 Asus P8H67-M H67 Socket 1155 VGA HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard 252614 £81.77 Cart total inc vat: £351.97
Is it safe to build sandybridge? Think i would be happier with old i core series, or amd systems thanks anyway. Mego
There's an issue which affects a small proportion (~5%) of the SB motherboards whereby the old SATA 2 sockets can degrade over time (The SATA 3 sockets are still fine and backwards compatible with SATA 2 devices), however if you're one of the unlucky ones then you'll be able to replace your motherboard free of charge if you have any issues.
Havent looked at sandy bridge, the spec looks fast how does. The intergated graphic compare on the above system Cheers for your help
http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/804017a264124ae8a87a52ea91f05263 Should be viewable now. Sandy bridge will mean concession in PSU case mobo and RAM limiting potential when you put in a GPU The integrated one is awful for games. This review only deals with the 2500k GPU which is twice as powerful as the 2400's one.http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i5_2500K_GPU/4.html
As I have just recently built a budget AMD build I feel I can help out here. For £300-350 you could get the following: Case - Antec 100 - £43 PSU - BeQuiet L7 530w - £45 MB - MSI 870A-G54 - £70 (GB or Asus equivilant would be fine here) CPU - Phenom II x2 555 BE - £70 RAM - 4GB OCZ PC12800 (1600MT/s) - £30 or so Cooler - CM Hyper 212+ - £20 Total spend: £278 Both the case and PSU offer plenty of future expandability (the PSU has 2 x 6+2pin PCI-e connectors) and should form a good basis for a new build in the future. The MB has both SATAIII and USB 3 which will definately be useful in the future (for the sake of a few quid I wouldn't srimp on these features), it can also unlock the 555BE without an issue (whether the cpu will do this is of course not guaranteed). If you want a quad out of the box I would recommend the 955BE at around £110. Coupled with a decent GPU you will have a decent all round system capable of anything you can throw at it. For what it's worth my 555BE unlocks to a Tri core (The MSI board allows individual core unlocking) and clocks to 4GHz at only 1.325v (1.3v is the bios stock). I have seen around a 40% improvement on the Bit Tech benchmark suite compared to the 555BE at stock (dual core). Not bad for a £70 processor.
