Budget: around £1000, but it can go a little bit higher if needs be as i dont mind having to wait an extra few weeks to get a better system.

Main uses of intended build:Gaming, Software development

Parts required: Entire tower no accessories required.

Previous build information (list details of parts):

CPU intel e7200 core 2 duo.
    GPU radeon 4850 512mb.
    4gb ram.
    1tb samsung 7200rpm hd
    corsair 550 non-modular PSU.
    2 standard dvd+rw

    Monitor resolution: 1650 x 1080

Storage requirements: I will be reusing my 1tb HD but a small SSD could be useful.

    Will you be overclocking: yes
Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): I'd prefere Xfire/ sli support so that i can add in annother GFX card if i feel the need.

Extra information about desired system: I would prefer a modular PSU as my current non modular one is a pain to keep tidy.

    Thanks all :D

Your build signature looks sorta like one that I just advised so:

here's the thread so you can see what that guy's specifications were. Your budgets and uses are pretty close so I think an i7-950 build would work for both of you.

Brilliant thats just along the lines i need.

Just a quick question, the 650w PSU would that be powerful enough for overclocking and 2 cards in SLI?

probably going to go for a faster GFX card but besides that build seems pretty much what I need.

Plus can save a few quid by using my new HD, same model as the one you recomended and my DVD drive, plus i've gotten a free copy of win 7 via my university.

Just need to get a reasonabley priced good case and im sorted

    cheers for the help everyone,

thats a very nice looking case,

I'll probably end up buying my case at my local indie pc store as they've a pretty good selection and i dont have to pay postage. which is frankly extortionate getting stuff posted to northern ireland from the uk mainland.

wont be buying until janurary but time to start saving now i've a goal :D

Hmm... That might run it a little close to 650. It would still probably work but you might be running the PSU @ like 80%-90% load. You might want to do a 750W or 850W.

check out this thread on PSUs that started

    Sounds good, enjoy your build.

You might want to wait a bit for nvidia and ATI to stop releasing new cards unless you're in dire need of a video card. I think Nvidia's supposed to release the 560 and 570 next.
