I bought new components recently and so my new PC setup is as below: Intel C2D E4400 2GB RAM Asus P5K-SE Motherboard 8800GTS 320MB 400GB WD HDD 200GB Seagate HDD Creative Audigy 2 DVD-RW 500W PSU I installed everything and installed Windows XP Pro with SP 2 and got everything else I use installed. The problem is that, while at the desktop, the PC hung with a continuous beep coming from the speakers. This isn't as bad as when I had a beep and hang when playing Airborne, which I fixed with the 1.1 update. I suspected a problem with the C2D so I got some Microsoft dual core patch, then I suspected a problem with the onboard sound, so I disabled it in the BIOS. The problem has just occured once, but I'm quite sure it will occur again because the PC doesn't seem stable at all - the PC will sometimes hang at the WinXP loading screen. I've updated Windows update and installed the latest drivers for everything. Any ideas? I have no problems in Portal, TF2 and EP2 so I think the problem may stem from MOH: Airborne, although the WinXP loading screen hang is confusing me too, and may suggest a problem in the bigger picture.
No overclocking done to any parts whatsoever at the moment, so stock E4400 2.0Ghz with stock heatsink. RAM is Corsair TwinX CL-4 PC6400 stuff (2 x 1 GB) if I'm not mistaken.
What's your temps like and what PSU are you using? A touch more voltage through the memory (2.0 should do) and CPU might help.
Below 30 degrees C Idle and no idea about load. I'm using an Ultra X-Connect 500W (I know - I'm sorry.. I was tempted by the shinyness). Do I need to up the voltage even in a stock clocked system? That sounds peculiar.
Okay, I'll try memtest, but is there a way to do it without a floppy disk? I haven't had one of those for the last 5 years!

The Ultra X3's are great, I've not tried other models though. Up the voltage to see if the voltage drop (vDroop) is particularly abnormal in your board, or it may not be picking it up right. Stick your ram at 2.0 and CPU at 1.3-1.35 and see what happens.
I've done what you suggested, bindibadgi. I'll see how this goes, although I've recently had really stupid crashes in IE7 and once or twice in TF2 so I'm not sure if it's just the CPU n RAM! The XConnect I have is the first gen 2 x 80mm with thick modular cable one, not the X3s... Will try the Ultimate Boot CD when I find a CD-R!
to be honest, if ur using the first get x-connects, with ur setup, it could probably be that, if u have the money, go get a 600w+ psu from ur local computer store, then if that doesnt resolve it return it also (im not entirely sure about this), but the mobo u have is 1333/1066mhz fsb, while ur cpu is 800mhz fsb. dunno if this will make a difference. Try updating ur bios, and make sure u have all up-to-date drivers. just some thoughts
