Hi, Could anyone recommend a decent digital camera for use an an outdoor music gig? I'm going to Hard Rock Calling next month and I am looking for something that will get great images should I be in the middle of the crowd (not at the front and not at the back). My budget is £100-150. Also I can borrow a Sony Cybershot Carl Zeiss camera which is 12.1MP and 4x optical zoom. Would this camera be sufficient or would I need something better?
To be honest if this is a big gig I doubt you'll be getting anything that decent with any camera from the middle of the crowd. I guess you'll be a long way away and have people in the way. I'd say get something cheap in case it gets broken or stolen. Or just enjoy the gig and not worry too much about taking photos in the first place. With that aside if you were looking for a compact in that budget I'd say look at the Canon PowerShot A590 IS, the Panasonic Lumix FS7, and maybe the Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd.
Well it's Bon Jovi I'm going to see and I want to get some decent photos in case this is the last time I see them. I'll be trying to get as far to the front as I can but I'm just thinking worst case scenario. Is 12.1MP/4xOp Zoom sufficient or do I need something more?
It's probably going to be in low light, thus I would recommend something with a. high f stop for speed and b. a good large sensor so low light pictures look good. I highly recommend the Canon S95 http://www.dpreview.com/news/1008/10081918canonpowershots95.asp
fuji f80exr maybe £130 on amazon with a 10x optical zoom samsung wb600 £130 on amazon with a 15x optical zoom
any movement in low light will negate any benefit an optical zoom will give you. A standard focal length and wait for the stage lighting up to take the photo will give the best results. Also a flash wont do anything but light up the backs of peoples heads which you probably wont want too much. I`d say your sony would do you fine matey, just watch you don`t lose it in that big mad mental bon jovi mosh.
