wouldn't say hate..... but you might have had more reponse if you posted in the photography art and design section of the forum, though its also true that the reponce will probably be 1# buy a canon/nikon 2# don't buy nikon compacts they're rubbish, look at fuji and panasonic instead 3# it won't be any good unless its a DLSR 4# they doesn't want a SLR they want a compact 5# random spam about how no-one uses film anymore and its turning into a lost art and anyone who uses photoshop is a cheat. etc until finally someone will say go look at dpreview
Also, head to Jessops or similar and actually use the ones you're looking at. I remember choosing my DSLR I had two in mind, but it wasn't until I tried them out that I realised the Canon had a horrible, small handgrip, and I plumped for the nice-feeling Nikon instead. It's all well and good going by a review, but if it feels horrible you won't enjoy using it as much
