New Computer - A64, 7800GTX etc.

  1. Hi there fellow bit-techers!
I need some views suggestions on a PC I may be building in the relatively near future.

I already have: speakers, headphones, dvd rewriter and hard drive so they were not included in the spec sheet.

    Here are my choices:

    Please give me any info/opinions.

    Thanks,

    Charl3s :cooldude:

I thought you were buying an sff? Might be the wrong poster, but that looks like a killer rig anyway.

  3. Yeah, your right I WAS gonna buy a SFF rig but I edited the final post on that thread which basically said I won't go that route any more.

My main reasons for that choice were:

    - Heat, I will have my rig on 24/7 and I want to overclock
    - Overclockability, Shuttles aren't known for their OCing
    - Expandability, I can't do with just: 1xOptical Drive, 1xPCI Slot etc.
    - I don't need the portability
    - I want to be able to easily upgrade
    - One day I wouldn't mind DUAL 7800s :hip:

Hope that clears that up for y'all

Well you could buy better RAM for similar money - wouldn't be difficult to get some Corsair XL at very least - could get some decent TCCD-chipped OCZ mem for that cash.

Also, why not buy a cheaper CPU and OC it? What about optical drives? New HD's? CPU Cooler?

  5. Krikkit:
I will prolly get the OCZ Platinum 2x512mb 2-3-2 for the same price now.
    I have a 300gb SATA 16mb cache Maxtor and a 250gb USB2.0 Lacie - Which satisfies my needs.
I also have a LG SuperMulti DVD-RW/DVD+RW/DVD-RAM for an optical drive. Another thing I have is an 802.11g 54mb/s Wi-Fi PCI card.

I'd keep the 3700+ though, unless you convince me otherwise

Maybe later I'll get a 120mm Zalman "Flower" CPU cooler, depending on noise and temps

At least buy a decent brand GTX if your getting one.
    Namely XFX/MSI/Gainward/Gigabyte.

  7. Shadowed_fury: K, I'll get a Gigabyte for around £10 more

Oh, good, and me being picky, if you can stretch to a 20"/21" LCD rather than a 19" its so worth it for more res, bare in mind, your GTX will be crying at 1280x1024... ;)
19" LCDs use the same res as 17"s usually, its a shame.

  9. mmm, yeah if I do get this rig it'll be around September ( :waah: can't wait) so by the HOPEFULLY I may have at least a £200 saving so I can get a Dell 20" Widescreen @ 1680x1050

looks simmilar to the system im planning on but im getting 2gb of ram and a 6800 ultra instead of 1gb and a 7800

  13. Tolsk: Well, If I want later I can add RAM for £90, if you are a serious gamer it's definately worth paying a few pounds/dollars more and future-proofing. If you get a gig of RAM you can always add later rather than pay another £350 to replace a graphics card

Dont bother with flashy LED crap ram. Just grab a gig of decent clocking TCCD/TCC5. CorsairXL will be *ok* its not great but it'll do.
PSU, tad worried about that one, maybe look to a decent non modular? You've got a fair bit to power... Tagan/OCZ/Antec imo, powerstream over modstream as the rails are much better if you get an OCZ.

  15. Yeah, I think I may change the PSU for one with more "oomph" and SLI power connectors.
I also said I'd get some OCZ Platinum 2-3-2 RAM which someone told me is only a fraction slower than 2-2-2

  16. Is Thermaltake Silent Purepower 680W PSU any good? It has two GPU power connectors two. I'll start reading some reviews . . .

the ram is a bit of a joke with the led's :hehe: more of a gimmic than anything... you might benifit if you spend a little more on a better brand like xfx :D

nice cpu :naughty: you might want to consider some nice dell monitors ;)

you can get sli sff's :hehe: and shuttles Oc a little but your deffinatly best going for a larger case like a lian li v1000 :naughty: the psu first listed should be fine although you might want to look at OCZ's and enermax the thermaltake should be fine but i don't know but about them :duh: and check theres connectors for 2 gfx cards
