hey my mate has been looking for a new computer and this is what we have come up with. any changes you guys would make? GPU:.....leadtek PX8800GTX CPU:.....Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz MOBO:..Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard RAM:....Corsair Twin2X 2GB DDR2 5400 CASE:...Raidmax Smilodon Case (3 Fans Included) HDD:.....Seagate 3.5" 320GB HDD 7200RPM PSU:.....SilverStone ST-75ZF 750W DVD:.....Pioneer 16X16 DVD-/+R/RW
a different case most certainly, imo raidmax's are both ugly, and inneficient, esp since youve got an 8800 in there (that case could well be too small aswell, as the 8800 is as long as the 7950gx2) i suggest you get a coolermaster, a silverstone (if youve got the cash), or a lian-li because the cooling is miles superior. you'll also want to change the mobo for an sli one, as that is a crossfire board, and you wont be able to sli in the future.
Hey overdosedelusion, This is my rig me and bender are setting up here. Now i've taken on the fact that this card is 11", So here are some of the biggest cases I could find. CoolerMaster Centurion 532 Thermaltake Soprano Antec Nine Hundred Case If any and/or all will support the 8800GTX, can you let me know? And in your opinion, which case is the best? Thanks in Advance, Josephs
they should all support that card as long as the drive cages dont get in the way. but the antec 900 gamer case is your safest bet, it is also the best case of the 3 with much better cooling and much more space to use. the centurion 532, while a great case, will not give you the cooling you will need for such a card. the thermaltake soprano is also a great case, but the cooling is only half as good as the antec! here are the cases in order of cooling 1. Antec 900 2. Soprano 3. Centurion now, there is one case i would like to add to your possibilities. and that is CM Satcker 830 this case has phenominal cooling power. it comes with only 2 fans pre installed, but it has a bracket for 4x120 mm fans at the side to either blow cool air directly over the mobo and GFX cards, or suck the hot air off. Not only that, but you can have 2 120 fans at the front aswell. It is also certified to fit 2 8800GTX's inside it.
"World's first NVIDIA SLI certified chassis Dual GeForce 8800 GTX" Wow, I'm liking it. I am liking it Alot! Shame is costs double of any of my cases I mentioned. Looks like the best option for me, however, I think i'll have to stick with the "Just Sexy" Antec. Thanks overdosedelusion!
hehe, if you can get him off it most likely hell be sucked up into the full HDR 16x AA/AF graphics power.. me, well i have to wait till next spring gurgh
I bought my first case which was a raidmax Horizon. when i took it out of the box, i thought "SH*T" because it felt flimsy, but after installing the mobo, i felt more satisfied because she looked like a beast and was rock solid as one too. as far as the air flow on the one in particular, i have no clue. alls i know is mine flows awesome, system temp as well as CPU temp never reaching 40*C. The I/O area was perfect, my mobo perfectly aligns with the 7 slots in back. dont be discouraged from raidmax, - they are excellent
Any real friend would soak test the rig, which would mean keeping it at your house for at least a month, just to make sure everything is fine.
The silverstone is fine. it's the ZF, which means its made by Etasis. Which is at the same level as PCP&C and Zippy, but without the price.
yeh i think im building it so there might be some "bugs" that will need to be worked out before he can pick it up.
"yeah im sorry but i think ill need to keep it for a few more days" "but you've had it a month!" "yeah i know theres just this one guy i can't kill, must be a glitch of some sort, could take me a while"
Just a quick one, i have seen and poked around a antec nine hundred and its ok, it doesnt look very nice but the case temps were pretty damn low thanks to that massive fan. AND the room was pretty warm for it so i could leave the radiator off
I'm building a pc for one of my mates at the mo and he wanted an antec900. I tried everything to convince him to go for a lian-li but he wouldn't have it. He just said it 'looked awesome', so he wanted it. I have to say, I was quite impressed with it. For £70, it has quite a sturdy construction, the matt black finish looks nicely done and the cooling potential is incredible. It's clearly a well thought out design and perfect for him. I would personally rather have a lian-li but there you go .
Hey Guys, just realised I need a little more help on deciding an appropriate case. It came to my attention, that Bit-Tech have actually done a review on the Antec 900 Gaming Case, which is what I was intending to buy. However, After reading their review, I was shocked to read the part about the 8800GTX on this page I'm looking for the affordability and airflow of the Antec 900, aswell as enough room to fit my damn 8800GTX in.... Please advise
well tbh, hard drives arnt a highest necessity to cool, so removal of the hard drive fan to compensate for the 8800 is no biggy. Since you said you were looking for cases on a slight budget, the Antec P180 should fit an 8800 in easily. My friend has one, and its deep, cool, and very quiet. you shouldnt have a problem with it =)
