Hello, Budget: £300 Main uses of intended build: day to day and web development, multiple vm's and instances of ide's Parts required: all,no monitor, no OS, no mouse/keyboard Previous build information (list details of parts): laptop 8GB ram, i5-2430m, HDD (I find it slow, but I've been putting up with it, bluescreens and overheating shutdown have been happening) Monitor resolution: 1920x1080 Storage requirements: 120GB Will you be overclocking: no Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): ITX Extra information about desired system: Would like to build an ITX build using the silverline SG05B Require 16gb ram 120GB no seperate GFX card (for now) I was thinking AMD A6 7400k FM2+ ITX mobo 16GB ram (2x8GB) 120GB SSD Silverline SG05B I just need advice as to whether or not these parts make sense and solve me problem.
Looks good to me. If you have any more money to spend, I'd spend it on a larger SSD but that looks like a pretty good build to me.
I have concerns about opening it up completely. Also I need more ram anyway I am frequently using the full 8GB. My original plan was to get new sodimm ram and an ssd for about £150, but considering I only use the laptop at a desk and am concerned about the condition of the laptop (4 year old mid/low range laptop). If I am going to get a better machine that will last longer and be stable I'd rather spend a bit more money and get that.
Good point, I have external hdd's for storing stuff and don't store things on my laptop at the moment but maybe a 240GB drive makes more sense considering I am using 111GB currently.
It could be worth fixing and putting a small ssd in for general use. As for the new PC, the A6 might struggle with virtual machines. If you are on a strict budget, you have no real choice though.
Not on a strict budget, just need it to be reasonable, £300 was just a number that I thought sounded about right.
According to Scan.co.uk it will be £222 for the ram, Case, PSU and SSD. The cheapest AMD M-ITX is 71.85 on scan and when you add a processor on top of that it will cost over £330 with a low end chip. Unfortunately M-Itx Boards are more expensive compared to M-ATX Boards. I would advise you either spend a little more and get a quad core AMD Chip/intel i3 or else move to an m-atx case and avail of the cheaper boards.
