    Hi all

Just looking for a little advice/comments/suggestions on the following build. My wife's graphics card has bit the dust so I'm using that excuse to build myself a brand new rig and give her my current one. I have a budget of around £2k to £2.5k, but can go higher.

The main purpose of the rig is gaming. The Dell 2407WFP in my sig went bang at Christmas, so I'm now using a Dell U2913WM (2560x1080).

    Case: Corsair 750D
Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Hero (Z97)
    CPU: Intel 4790K
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro (2400)
    GFX: EVGA 780Ti SC ACX
    PSU: Corsair AX860i
    Cooler: Corsair H110
    SSD: Samsung 1TB 840 EVO
    HDD: 3TB Seagate Barracuda (ST3000DM001)
    Sound: Creative Soundblaster Z
Optical: Pioneer BDR209EBK (retail version with software)
    OS: Win 8.1

The single most expensive item is obviously the graphics card. I've gone for the 780Ti, but I am also considering the 6GB 780 and also the AMD R9 290X.

The EVGA card is around the £530 mark. Would you go for EVGA or other brands?

The one game I want to have running at max everything is Eve Online - but 3 clients simultaneously (which uses up video memory). I can run 3 clients happily on my GTX580, but I have to switch off quite a bit of the lovely stuff - HDR, AA, shadow quality etc. I don't know how much VRAM 3 maxed out Eve clients would use up.

If/when I buy any new games, I'd want to max them out on detail too.

At some point in the future, I may be tempted to go down the 4K route, in which case I would consider a 2nd card in SLI. So am I better to get the best I can now, or would 2x 780's be ample?

I do plan to overclock the cpu, but not aggressively. Ambient heat has always been an issue in my room so I don't go crazy.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks :)

Nothing wrong with that build at all in my opinion. The 1TB Samsung SSD is fairly cheap now, I think around £340 on Amazon. Not a bad price at all for one of the best SSD's on the market.

As for EVGA, I've always been happy with them. Had a few cards of theirs and never had an issue. I'd go for the Ti now if you have the money, if you got with Nvidia that is.

    Thanks for the reply meandmymouth.

One other quick question if I may?

If I went for the 6GB 780 (I have my eye on the EVGA model), and then a bit further down the line I wanted to get another for SLI, would that 860W psu be sufficient?

I've had a look at some PSU calculators but all give differing results. Corsair's own calculator didn't even have the 7xx series gpu's, let alone the i7 4790K in the drop down choices.

Looks great but for spending that amout on a computer I'd personally want it watercooled, you mention heat in your room too so...

I'm well inside my comfort zone when building an air-cooled pc. Real-man's water cooling, not the all in one H110 unit I've plumped for, is something I have no experience in.

Spending this much on a pc is too much of a risk to try water-cooling for the first time
