The post about a gaming mouse got me thinking about something I really should upgrade.

I only use a standard logitech £10 jobby right now so I'm sure anything is gonna be an improvement!

Which keyboards are considered the best for gaming?

I quite like the Microsoft Sidewinder X4, shouldn't cost a fortune, either.

I got a sidewinder x6 from amazon for a bargin price and i am impressed. I dont think you will get much better until you get to the £100+ microswitched jobs.

And the red lighting is very handy as i type tis in the dark!

The sidewinder x4 is a great keyboard for the price, the red backlight keys are very nice.

Very happy x4 user here as well best you'll get for the price. i used to have a g15 which was also quite nifty with an lcd screen however they don't make them any more and thje newer version is quite pricy so unless you can find them somwhere i think the g17 is too expensive for what it does.

for both gaming and general typing I have fallen in love with the Razer Blackwidow, AFAIK it is one of the cheapest fully mechanical keyboards on the market, and it is a joy to use, really solidly built as well.

If you're budget will stretch, I'd recommend a Filco keyboard. I have one with cherry brown switches and love it.

Aside from the X4, I saw the Saitek Cyborg V7 come up with excellent marks in a recent review.

+1 for the Cyborg v7. Had one for a while now. Reasonably quiet, firm and pleasant resistance on key presses despite being membrane, the best backlighting of any keyboard i've seen, 12 unintrusive macro keys and reasonable software (not the best but fairly good).

I really like the Logitech ones with an LCD screen and programmable buttons. I have the G15 and I think that's not available now (but not sure) and that the current models are the G19 (insanely expensive and needs its own power supply) and the G510.

I find the LCD screen great for stuff like monitoring temperatures. It has game-specific functions built in, and quite a list of compatible games. Perhaps most vitally of all, Vent and Teamspeak use it so you can see who's talking! Saves a lot of confusion. :D

+1 to the Logitech "G" Series with the LCDs. They seem gimmicky until you have one and can monitor wonderful things like Ventrilo, cpu temps/usage, the time, BFBC2 stats, LOTRO stats, etc.

I have the original G15 but am looking at getting the G510 now :)

I have had a G15 and it was nice, snuffed it after one to many bottles of beer went in it :p
I love my Razer Tarantula, even if it is the American version. It is built of quality, fantastic bit of kit.
The Microsoft X range seems to be getting a lot of good reviews and for the cost seems a very good keyboard.
