Hi all, I looking to upgrade from my 7950 as its starting to show its age. I only game at 1080 but prefer to buy slightly better as i tend to keep my GPUs for 2-3 years. I was looking at the 970 or R9 390 but ive seen lots of stuff on the new GPUs from both camps. Are these slated for mid 2016 release or will it be the end of the year ? I know you can end up always waiting for the next refresh but since of dont upgrade often im thinking it may be worth the wait ? Budget is around £200-300
Nv have said they are realsing the new £1000 titan asap ; although once again the mockup wasnt pascal.... I think AMD will get out of the door first with the latest HBM2 kit - likely sapphire first as well.

well they had a mockup -and pre CES all the press were saying Nv are showing pascal - alongs comes CES , nv show a wonderful new product - which are some quick research shows , actually its an old product lashed together ; at least it doesn't have wood screws this time: http://semiaccurate.com/2009/10/01/nvidia-fakes-fermi-boards-gtc/
Back OT - it doesn't look like there'll be much available over the next few months based on a bit of web searching on my part. I'm not 'in the know' like others, though - particularly, given his industry involvement, Bindi is probably right in his assessment of June this year, but then who knows. We're back at the old 'wait and see' conundrum I suppose!
well AMD did announce `back to school` 2016 which usually starts june/july and ties in to *just* H1 2016 edit: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/01/rumours-nvidia-will-unveil-their-flagship-pascal-gpu-in-april/ kotaku seem to think pascal will be here in flagship form in april
i thinking of waiting then - im only just at the stage of my GPU not being strong enough. the jump in architecture, power draw and potential performance seems too tempting
Price could be crazy is the concern most have. The rumours going around is that we will see a Titan level card and a bunch of low end / mid range gpus first from both sides. With the high end stuff delayed till end of the year start of next year. That's the general rumours going around the net. I'd imagine the mid range will offer 980ti levels of performance for around the £300 mark. That's my expectations. Nvidias low / mid range will likely not include HMB2 either.
Latest discussions I've had indicate HBM2 to be limited to GP100 series only - possibly due to avoiding risk of availability/cost (to accommodate their market share.). Not GP104/106/etc now GP104 will be on GDDR5X instead. Even if Nvidia express a Titan to launch, I can't imagine how really available it'll be. AMD has shown off some working silicon apparently, but given GloFo's history of piss poor execution I have no idea when we'll see it either.
For what it is worth, going to a 390X is a little pointless. The 280X and 390X are pretty much directly related to the 7950/7970. Your only real bet is a Fury or a 980/980 Ti.
The 390 and 390x may be rebrands with slightly higher clocks but that doesn't make them bad just because they are related to an older card. That older card was the one that was as fast as a Titan for nearly half the price. And whilst they may be related to the 7970 they're almost twice as fast and the 390 costs £240 or so. If you were upgrading from a 7970 for example it would be a huge upgrade. A 980ti costs over double what you can pick up a 390 for. The only card between them that makes any sense is the Nano now tbh. I hope it becomes £350 as per instead of OCUK playing peek a boo with the price. Once it hits £350 it will be impossible to ignore
pcper have said GloFo are in volume production for 14nm parts for AMD polaris - likely lower end - GTX 950 competition but still.
