hi all this is my first post on the custom pc`s forum although ive been reading the mag for quite awhile now. im currently running a core i7 920 oc to 3.8 ghz, 6gig of corsair ram, xfx 260 oc gpu, with windows 7 p6t deluxe mobo.theres soooo many gpus out there at the mo i have about £300 to £400 to spend ive always had nvidia but im looking at an ATI but just not sure which one. if some1 could help with some advice would b great look forward to hearing from u
Any particular reason you want to upgrade from a GTX260? Right now ATI 58xx series is in short supply and nvidia should be (laughs) releasing there new cards later this quarter.
no not any particular reason it just seems to come up short now and again and ive got some spare cash at the mo.there also seem some really good cards out there at the mo
and nvidia might or might not charge you an arm and 2 legs for them, when they do go onsale, apparently out of the DX11 cards the 5850 is the best bang for buck card, (only what ive heard) take care m8
well, the ATI 5850 is roughly on par with a GTX285, so anything better than a 5850 would be leaving nvidia in its dust, if you've got the cash then a ATI 5870 would be a great card. However £350 now, could be £250 very soon. Its not as if the GTX260 is so slow not to wait a little while. So take my advice and hide that cash well out the way until the graphics card market settles a little better, considering CES is around the corner.
thanks all the ATI 5870 was the card i kept looking at and the 59xx series is out but out of my price range thanks again for the advice and think i ll wait seems the best thing thanks all
2.5% increase, that's peanuts really if your looking at spending £300+ on a graphics card. The VAT drop to 15% was to aid BIG businesses to stay a float, there was very little benefit of this passed on to the consumer. Anyway this sort of chat belongs else where, even I am in the wrong in saying what I have but its felt needed.
Why not plump for another GTX260 and run SLi for the time being. Save the rest of your money until both ATI and nVidia have DX11 cards to market.
i have thought about getting another and running sli but i think i would rather just get 1 better card.if that b now or in the future thanks for all the help guys the new nvidia cards come out some time this month so think i will wait till then
they dont m8, if your talking about fermi, they get released in march, not this month read this http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20091228PD207.html
would get a SSD tho prices are all over the place atm. SLI would be the best option, theres nothing out there appart from the HD5850 that would give you a performance increase that would beat going SLI in terms of value.
well think it this way when nvidia releases the 300 series they wont ahve that good of drivers and proble alot of bugs...and alot more money the current ati dx11 cards are the best right now and i would proble go with one of those.....im waitting for the 5970 or the 5870 to go down in price
right now nvidia are rushing to get fermi ready, its embrassing that by the time they release ATI will be releasing its second phase of the 5800 series with a die shrink and power savings. i don't think nvidia will release duff drivers upon release as it will be suicide, if fermi fails then nvidia could be in the position ATI faced several years ago.
i mean hell im a nvidia and intel fan boy but right now ati is where its at i think nvidia wasted its time making so many 200 series cards...i mean there is gt210-240 then the gts 250 then gtx 260,276,280,285,295 and all the overclocked and super clocked and co op versions of those cards
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-123-PC this is the card iwas thinking about buying... and this 1 but way out of price range at the mo http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-056-GI&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1577
