Simply play offline. The whole online-thingy makes this game horribly slow and stuttering some times. Aslong as there's no patch for the game itself and just online-patches I couldn't care less about those patches.... I'm not going t play online anyways, as I'm not playing racing-games with people I don't know.... there's simply too many bullies and 13 year olds out there who ruin the whole fun in a racer and rather should go play destuction derby. Just reached LvL 20 btw European Championship - Track Rome will net you 86.000 credits and 4000 XP in a mere 6 minutes.... On to making some more money to get the 15 million for the Lambo Miura
For those that have played the other games in the series, how does GT5 stack up against them? Are the driving physics similar, and is the main game mode similar to GT3/4? I know the AI will still be pants, but TBH I'm more than used to that now. I played the prologue for a while but it didn't really blow me away like the other games did, so I'm not sure whether I should get it or not. It's currently the only reason I'm keeping my PS3 ATM.
If you've got a PS3 then I'd say its worth getting. I didn't have a PS3 and bought the bundle from amazon for £275, and I feel a little bit robbed. Its not what you'd expect from a game that took 6 years. Its not bad, some of it is great fun, but there are some pretty major flaws, and things that should have been done better. The AI is slightly better than GT4, its still not perfect and they do occassionally get it wrong and PIT you, . The driving physics seem about right. Works nicely with my G25, although the H shifter implementation is appalling. With a pad, its a little trickier, and with the higher powered cars I would imagine it'll be a bit harder still. There is one race which I don't believe can be completed with pad or wheel, the Top Gear intermediate challenege, its all elise 111R, and they handle like ****, the back end steps out with the tiniest of throttle. Appallingly bad physics on that. Night driving at Le Mans is awesome. As is rain, that really makes things interesting, . The rallying is better than GT4, and probably a bit better than GT3 too (GT3 rally was IMO miles ahead of GT4). I've not tried online yet.
The online was shocking in GT5 prologue, and TBH I doubt they've done a great deal to make it much better since it already looks like they've had to skimp on a lot of the car modelling to get it out before the end of the PS3 life cycle.
Aye that is impossible, I couldnt keep the car under control and keep up with everyone else. I lose control just accelerating or braking in a straight line in that machine. Unless I'm missing/need to unlock something this game doesnt seem as big as GT4 - no manufacturer races etc.
Yeah they've gotten rid of the manufacturer races. There is the special section with the go karts, rallying, AMG driving academy. Also, most of the races seem to have been cut down. Like the NR-A (mx5 race) only has one race, whereas in gt4 I'm sure it had about 3 or 4. Most races had 3 tracks/races minimum.
The reason is that it's fitted with the Comfort (Hard) tyres - you have to try and go absolutely flat-out on those horrid things, which makes applying the throttle very tricky. I've yet to complete it, but with all the driver aids on (except steering) I bet it's possible, just ridiculously hard. Without any driver aids (my default play style) it's absolutely immense. I get to the 2nd last corner and either spin, wash wide and smush into the invisi-barrier or smash into another car.
Man, I am annoyed! I just spent a good couple of hours doing the beginner, intermediate and expert karting challenges. The last race in expert was bloomin hard. What did I get as reward for golds in all three levels? I tell you, some fecking paint!! Yep, I slaved away for a couple of hours and all I got was a bloody can of Dulux! It was probably a rubbish colour too - I didn't even look! Hmph!
I can understand alot that there's alot of concerns about the game, but let's get serious for a little moment here... The car-physics are rather good and you should allways compare the physics to reallife and not other games. To get the right picture you need to disable all the driving-aids that are not found in the cars, when you'd drive them in reallife. There's no Lancia Delta HF Integrale with TC for example... let alone an antislide-option and same counts for the Lotus Elise aswell. If you hammer down the padel in digital driving style (full throttle or full breaks with nothing inbetween) then you'll crash those cars within very short time in reallife too. And yes I took those two as an example as I had the pleasure of driving them on an airfield The carphysics in rally-mode are totally off tho and the force-feedback-vibrations are way too strong. Next on the list is the mockery about the time it took to do the game... well... have you looked at the amount of high-poly-count models in this game (NOTE: every one of those has fully modeled interiors aswell!)? And they're still working on getting more cars done with the high-quality models, which will be released later on as DLC/Patches. These high-poly-models are awesome and I've yet to see another game with excellent models like these. Manufacturer races? You can setup a manufacturer-race yourself in training-mode if you wish and there's some manufacturer-races in GT-mode aswell, like the Lamborghini- or Mini-trophies. As I said earlier, the environment looks nice and has alot of details, and the only point to critizise on is the shadows, which are too hard. Changing light-, weatherconditions are aswell well done imho. I'm rather happy with the game all around, but there could be more GT-events... I've got only 15 left on my list... The basic licenses are all done allready and only a few of the Rally special-events are missing, as I can't stand the rally-thing in this game. Time played: 40 hours Cars owned: 60 Favourite cars so far: fully tuned AMG SLS and Ford GT with over 600kW each The fun part in this game isn't really to play through the game tho, but it's the part of grinding money to get those multi-million-cars like the Lamborghini Miura for 15 Million credits And as there's quiet a few of cars not available at the dealers, you've to check back at the used cars alot to get some nice ones, like the '69 Shelby Mustang etc. So long... and stay on track
But, and I want to make it clear from the start I am not a fan boy for either game, Forza 3 seemed to manage to get a decent set of cars all with interiors in much less time. Some of the detailing they've gone to is a bit OTT really. Half of it you'll never see. And I think I can certainly say that a Lotus Elise does not handle like the one in GT5, if it did, it wouldn't be one of the best handling cars ever, and they would all end up in ditches. As krikkit said though, its probably the tyres. Most elise's have pretty sticky tyres, so if they're expecting us to drive one with hard tyres then that would ruin it. After buying the mini (the old proper one), and driving that, the physics are pretty good, , I can compare the real life pretty well with that car,
People bitch and moan about the graphics but, honestly, this is the best looking racing game I have ever seen. Granted, I never played Forza 3 so I can't compare. (I would add more comments but I just woke up and for some reason I can barely align two words atm)
I leave the plug out of my g25, means there's no force feedback, I like it more this way, hurts the hands or upper body after hours of playing, as a real driver you don't get all your information from the steering wheel anyway. I can sit as a passenger in a car and feel what the tyres and car are doing (through my bum? LOLZ) Sad that every car isnt premium. annoyed that 80% of the cars have to to be find with pot luck in the used car section. What's the point of a 3 to 20 million car in the used car lot when I've just started and have 20K?????? Why can't i fast forward b-spec bob? Or enter multiple bob's in the same race? I cba to find out what car to use in beginner lightweight cup, all little **** boxes I haven't got a clue about or a truck to use in the USA truck ones Feels like it took them 2-3 years to do, rather than 6. It's good and bad, I can't decide 7/10.
That last line sums up GT5 for me perfectly. There are aspects that are really really really good. Like the go karts, the weather (sometimes) and the night racing. But there are also some really really really bad things, that should have been solved in a game that was in development for 6 years. I really hope that I can make a difference after my degree, although I probably never will, . Maybe I should start my own games dev and make a racing/driving simulator, but listen to what people want. What I'd like is a mix between Forza 3 and GT5, mixed with a bit of PC stuff.
