I havnt installed the new hdd yet so if there are any other tips please post

You can use a piece of software like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image (recommended) to clone your hard drive directly across to the new one, OS and all. If buying the software isn't an option, then you could just connect both at the same time, do a fresh Windows install on the new one and then, once done, copy all your documents/music etc. across. Be sure to set the boot priority in your BIOS to the new drive once you've installed Windows on it, otherwise you'll find that it keeps booting off the old one ;)

Acronis True Image is what ived used and it does direct HDD 2 HDD cloning and lets you use the extra free avail space. i didnt like ghost.
