Will speak to you on Mumble regarding the Revo. (Edit: you trying to sell me the dead revo lol) Though I am thinking an all in one system as the Pi would be plugged into the TV and used as and when needed. Heres a thought I could have it power on over network from sleep? So soon as my PC sends data over the network it should power on and sync? I know that there might be a slight delay in the turning on from sleep etc But it's an idea, and then go to sleep once the data has been sent. The HTPC will be outputting to a 720p TV it's a few years old and not a high end Sony etc So a graphics card isn't required.
Of course not! (yes) The rPi is designed to be left on all the time as its such low power. You can't WOL it as it powers on as soon as the USB cable for power is connected, and the 'onboard' ethernet is actually run through the USB chipset. It should be no problem for your tv, mine worked first time out of the box as it were, minus a few config things (overscan, defaulting to stereo sound after reboots). Tonight I'm going to sort out this build, last night I just ended up playing FIFA for 5 hours. Trying to find a retail pentium g2100t at the moment, otherwise I need to look at coolers and what will fit in various cases. Still browsing ssds too, but I've a spare 2.5" hd I could make do with in the meantime.
There is NH-L9i if nothing else fits . I still don't get why do you people think about Pentiums or Sandy Bridge generation Celerons, when Ivy Bridge Celerons (G16xx) are already on sale.
That noctua is on my current short list along with the silverstone sst-nt07 and xigmatech praeton ld964. Liam li pcq07b is a few quid off on Ocuk, and now I'm back to debating cases again :/ Decisioning is not my strong point
Just that it'd include the cooler is all. I've actually got loads of coolers, just no 1155 brackets or clips for any of them. 65 quid for a 64gb crucial M4 from Ocuk seems alright, still not clear on why it has a lower write speed listed than most others though.
In general, the lower capacity Crucial SSDs have slower write access due to the layout and number of flash cells. Or that's my understanding. Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...!
The Crucial M4 is just quite an old model as far as I know. SSDs have got quite a bit faster since it was released. See this benchmark for example: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/01/08/the-ssd-catchup/1
Scan have just added the retail g2020, in stock. It's a quid cheaper than the g645 or g645t, so I think it's the winner unless someone advises me otherwise before I place the order tonight. Also scan have an ocz vertex 120gb ssd for 40 quid. It's only Sata2 but should be ideal for htpc purposes.
went with: bitfenix prodigy corsair cx430 msi b75 itx motherboard pentium g2020 4gb corsair ram xfx silent (passive) 5450 samsung 840 120GB 365 quid all in, though 27 of that is the saturday shipping and a cheaper ssd could be had. I may switch that ssd out to my laptop when i'm able to egt a cheaper/smaller one for the HTPC. planning on running win7 + xbmc + emulators using a logitech harmony 650 and xbox 360 controllers. havent decided whether to just launch emulators via xbmc or whether to try out hyperspin, anyone have an opinion to share?
Looking good my friend, I am going to be building a similar system minus the graphics card and SSD though. I like the Bitfenix Prodigy and the Motherboard has HDMI out which is what I require, Now to find out how many drive bays it has etc Woah I am sold on that case, that will be my next purchase.
