That didn't take long for a thread to show up. Ehh... it was time for an upgrade, but it's nothing really special IMHO.

Ah, but it continues. iLife 08? Hm... these liveblogging sites are way too laggy.

I'm not liking the look of that keyboard though. Well, I'm fine with the look, but not the mini-sized things. Those have always irritated me, even though I really should get one because I need the desk space.

There appears to be 2 sizes of kb : 1 with numpad, other without.
The site is not too laggy for me (refreshing every 10 seconds! !)

Hm... all of the others are laggy, but then again I hate going to engadget/gizmodo regardless. They must be adding pictures in behind the text, because more keep showing up for stuff they added five minutes ago. Yay internets.

Ooh, looks like we're getting an Excel equivalent in iWork 08, if the icons in Steve's dock are anything to go by.

Wow, that new iMac is fugly! And what is up with this new Events feature. Apparently it lets you split images into folders by days. And one picture can represent that Event.

New iMac, Mac Mini, iLife and iWork 08 revealed by Steve Jobs...

Did a search and couldn't find anything else on the same board... Steve Jobs reveals a swathe of new stuff at Cupertino press conference. New products include iMac's with aluminum and black cases, along with mac minis with Core 2 Duo and Web 2.0 intergrated into iLife and iMovie, allowing you to submit your pictures, videos and other content to an online album that can be viewed by anyone.
    http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/07/live-from-apples-summer-mac-product-press-conference/

    Opinions anyone?

Not sure I like the new keyboard, but I'd have to try it before I pass judgement.

I think it looks nice, but not necessarily functional. It essentially seems like a laptop keyboard made in desktop form. Do you really want a laptop keyboard? As far as I'm concerned, even the best laptop keyboards cannot match up with the worst desktop keyboards.

As for the iMac, it doesn't look much different from the older one, except a tad thinner. I'd have always thought the keyboard was beige and white which made it look retro, but I guess now that it's aluminum, it loses that effect. I like the black border around the screen, but I don't like the black Apple logo or the black backing - but the old iMac did look cheap with its white plastic and grey printed logo.

New iMac looks a bit ugly but practical.
New keyboard looks nice but unpractical.

Even though I wouldn't dream of buying one I must say 1Gb of RAM is a little disappointing. What happened to Macs do games too?

If a 17" MBP can upgrade to 4Gb then I would assume you can max out the new iMac as well.

Yea, you can max it to 4GB, but the 1GB is standard, and frankly if you're paying $1200 you should expect 2GB.
The only standard model that comes with 2Gb costs $2300.

They look really nice. I'm not quite sure about the black border on the iMac, but I'll just have to run down to the store and play with a bit to see what I think. Either way I like the lower priced 20" option! Not to mention having 1TB of HDD storage in an iMac! Very nice indeed.

I think the Dell design comparison was a cheap-shot. Maybe it would be better to make fun of the horrible Gateway all-in-one unit since it is attempting the same goal. (You know, the flat panel monitor with the computer built in that came out the same year the iMac "sunflower" came out.)

Dell obviously isn't competing for style, so maybe they could poke fun by performing similar tasks with different software. Keynote obviously beats Powerpoint, so that would be an easy win.

Of course, maybe someone should make a PC commercial showing a user's cell phone contacts, calendar events, and corporate email being updated on their phone without a computer while an iPhone is being plugged into an iMac to sync with iTunes. (I was sounding too pro-Apple there for a while, so I wanted to make sure and balance things out. :thumb: )

As the local MS fanboy I'd like to say things like events and sort by rating in iPhoto are in Windows Photo Gallery already.

Yeah, those should have always been in there.

I was really hoping for (though not expecting) two things, neither of which I got: headless iMac (iMac specs minus display) and the next version of iTunes that will implement song tagging. iWork and iLife look promising, but I really wish that the Mini had seen more of an upgrade - I'm NOT buying a computer with a display built in for a great number of reasons, need more than the Mini offers but have no need for the quad-core love of the Pro. If it wasn't (still) limited to 2GB of RAM and a laptop hard drive, I might consider and could even deal with the lack of dual display support.

Oh well. The new iMacs look nice, but I've got way too many displays to ever consider buying one. And while my MBP is nice, I really hate using laptops in general, especially for everyday use. No money for them this time around.
