I like the look of the new Macs, but won't be able to afford one, and since I'm not into making movies or taking photos the rest is a bit useless to me. Still, I think I will know what to recommend to my dad for his next computer, one of those nice shiny new Macs!

Like Firehed, and like a lot of bloggers recently, I want a Mac. Something with more oomf than a mini, an upgradable video card, ram, hd (or 2), etc, but without the dual proc goodness and associated price of the mac pro. The video card is the big issue for me, especially because boot camp allows a mac to be a damn fine gaming machine. Not too many people really need those 4 or 8 cores, but I know a lot of people who want the tower or mini-tower form factor.

On the things that *were* introduced: iMacs are pretty, but i don't really want one for aforementioned reasons. I've been waiting for iWork 08 for quite a while, as I was told when I bought my macbook that they were releasing it annually. So I've been waiting since January. I downloaded the trial, and it seems pretty damn impressive. I certainly never would have thought I'd be this interested in an office suite a few years ago...

iLife, looks amazing as well, but seeing as I've never actually used any of the ones I currently have, I'll probably just skip it. I just assumed it would with leopard for some reason. Does anybody know if I can use iLife '06 with leopard? The apps are nice to have, but just not worth the 80 bucks to me.

So basically, yay for more apple awesomeness.

Has anyone else used the new imovie? It is HORRIBLE, i mean it's a good idea and everything but not having a timeline is just stupid, they've dumbed it down so much you just cant do anything nice with it:sigh:

I don't honestly see why people fuss so much over a video card - for what 95% of people do on Macs, you don't need any 3d pixel-pushing beyond the desktop OpenGL. RAM and HD, yes, but so long as the card that's in there covers the Core Animation stuff sufficiently, there's little need for any extra power. But then again, I don't see much appeal anymore in using Windows on a Mac via Boot Camp just for gaming.

I'll probably just end up getting a low-end Mac Pro in Octoberish (just in case there's a new rev that comes out with Leopard) since I really do need more kick than what the Mini offers, but there are a lot of people - and especially businesses - that would make the switch if there was a Mac that equated to a upper-midrange PC.

I've gotta say though, the new iLife and iWork are pretty nice. iWork notably so - Numbers shows a lot of promise (I really wish they had it when I was taking accounting). iPhoto is a bit too slow for my liking (just like Aperture) but I really like the skimming and events features.
