Odds are I will be starting a new job in Austin TX soon while my fiance and baby daughter stay in Oregon. It's a good thing - the pay will be pretty good, even considering that I will have to pay rent in Oregon and Texas. So anyway, enough with the smilies - where's the fun in Austin? I'm looking for a place to go that's quiet with a selection of VERY good whiskys and then maybe also a comfortable quiet dive with pool tables that's close to where I'll be living. Also - nice small non-chain restaurants are of interest. Where's cheap living without a lease? (It will probably be for 6 months or so.) I'm currently planning on staying in an extended stay hotel for $49 a night, but If I could find a studio apartment that would let me stay month to month that would save a lot of money. What else should I know about Austin? I've heard many good things, but not much in detail about what's great about Austin. I love Portland. I love Oregon. I've heard that Austin is a lot like here in spirit. So anyway - thanks in advance for any information or advice you may have.
I lived in Austin for a while, not to fond of the place myself. You will probbably see a lot of "keep Austin wierd" - the idea behind is that is people believe the small shops are what makes Austin wierd 'cause most other cities let big business kill off all the small shops. I sure cant help you find a good place to live. I am curious to know what company do you plan to work for in Austin TX? L J
