I just bought a Brookstone Snack Tray that has a reversed "C" shape, which makes it slide easily under the sofa, so I can lean back and type. I thought I'd give my review here, since I refuse to update my blog. It cost $35 USD + shipping (that's roughly the same cost as the plastic "as seen on TV" trays), and is only sold online. The top surface is made of wood with a couple of metal strips down each side for support, and the hinge is the ratcheting style you see on the old metal poolside lounge chairs. (it clicks into specific angles, then lifting it to full height resets the ratchet and lets you lower it until it is parallel with the legs) The Legs come in 3 pieces: left leg, right leg, and support bar. Because of this, the legs aren't perfectly aligned, but adding the weight of a laptop quickly remedies this. There are 2 rubber buttons on the bottom of each leg to prevent it from sliding on tile and wood surfaces, but I'll probably take those off as I'm on carpet. I am typing this on my old HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop (15.4" widescreen) with my mouse and mousepad on the surface as well. I can easily rest my hands on the keyboard without worrying that I'm putting too much weight on it. There is a raised lip on the front and back of the surface to keep things from sliding off which is useful, otherwise my mouse would be in my lap at the moment. The box had holes in it and the surface was dinged a bit and has a few minor scratches, but nothing worth sending it back over. I would recommend this to anyone wanting an entry-level desk that allows you to use your laptop with mouse on a couch that has a few inches of clearance above the floor. The height is not adjustable, but considering the low price tag for a metal and wood table, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. (and that's only because the legs aren't perfectly even and it arrived a little scratched up) Does anyone else here have one of these? Do you agree or disagree with me? Have a better product in the same price range?
