    Hello All,

I hope you can help me guys. I am looking to buy a new laptop for my other half but not sure which one and also what to look for as this would be the first time I would buy a laptop.

The sole purpose of the laptop is to surf the web, music and skype hence it must have a camera and built in mic.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you all.

    Shah.

A few other requirements that might be helpful to cover:

    - Any preferences on screen size?
    - what about playing DVDs/films?
    - Typical length of usage (for battery life considerations)
    - Will she be travelling allot with it (thinking of size & weight here)
    - Will she be playing the music out load (so considerations on output volume/quality etc)

    Thank you mates :D,

    - Any preferences on screen size?

Well anything between 11 to 13inch will do.

    - what about playing DVDs/films?

    Not necessarily.

    - Typical length of usage (for battery life considerations)

    about 3-4 hours per day.

    - Will she be travelling allot with it (thinking of size & weight here)

Yes. So smaller the better :D

    - Will she be playing the music out load (so considerations on output volume/quality etc

Some times so the speakers should be good.

    Big question -- Budget £££

Well I haven't set a figure yet but looking to spend about £300-£400 but also flexible.

Some may not agree with me, but for personal use I always recommand buying cheap laptop. Besides you are looking for features that almost every laptop has.

I would recommand to go to store and tell them what you are looking for (camera + mic build in, screen size). Tell them to plugi in few laptops, as they have different lcd screens, just take the one that have best colors). It's really simple, just don't let them to add things you don't really need and won't use.

Edit: Speakers in laptops always make low quality spound. If you looking for good sound then you should buy headphones, or at least additional speakers.

Argos has a Lenovo laptop that meets all your requirements for £330. I have the same laptop that I paid £350 for and it is very good value for money.
