Most applications use the green button to 'zoom' to the most appropriate size at the time. If you Alt-click the green button it'll maximise the window in the vast majority of applications. I'm really looking forward to getting my new MBP in August, but before I decided on that, I was going to get a Mac mini and 24" Apple display. I still might get the display, after the MBP though.
