If you get an internal modem make sure its a hardware one and not a winmodem, as winmodems are cpu hungry and a bugger to get to work on any other os other than windows. P.S love the avatar.
A modem is a modem. There are no difference in an external versus an internal. The only difference in modems is the manufacturer. The reason why externals are made is to avoid suppling power. The external helps your PSU and motherboard from draining power when your power resources are cirtical and low. For most users it's the ability to view your connection is established. For internal, I would research the company before you decided to purchase. I don't think there'd be a problem buying a non-named brand if your seeking to be frugal. -Spawnhunter-
i ordered a creative on and it wasn't cheap. It was the only one where it said it would run under xp. The reason i need a new one is that the last drivers made for mine were for windows 95. I am using the xp standard drivers but i can't send files as attachments and other annoying things.
Go to the high street, find a dixons or something, go in and buy the cheapest 56k external serial modem they have. (£30 is a rough guide price) don't bother with USB. don't bother with pci cards. watch out for boxes which say 'v92 compatible' or 'v92 ready' - v92 is great but these labels normally just mean the modem will at some point in the future work with v.92 (maybe) IF you flash the modems firmware. so it's just good old v.90 until then.
