Rant New msn beta is woeful

what the hell have they done

anyone else used it

worlds most popular chat program and its got even more adverts and crap in it

even the smilies have changed

 

I havent used msn since i was at school, much prefer miranda or pidgin as chat clients. Ive heard stories of how msn's been getting worse and worse and getting over bloated.

Sometimes companies should take not of the 'if it aint broke dont fix it' rule imo.

 

I got sick of all the crap that's part of live messenger and switched to digsby. At first I was trying it out but I haven't used MSN once ever since.

 

It can't be that bad surely. The next A-patch will fix most thing like it always does. I hope.

When I started to use MSN Messenger in 2002 it was just a little chat software with a few smileys. The first addons were not that bad (voice chat, remember there was no Skype back then), but in 2005 when it was renamed to Windows Live Messenger the software changed to this social network mess we know now.

A-Patch and removed tabs help usually.

Right now I tend to use Steam mostly due to it's clean interface, but there are a few people who cannot be converted or don't have any Valve game that I actually care about, so I can't get rid off it completely yet.

 

Unfortunately A Patch is broken for the latest version of Live Messenger.

Every version of MSN gets worse and worse. I'm seriously just going to use something else, but am too lazy to try new ones

Heck, I miss the ICQ of the late 90s

I haven't found a good replacement for MSN on Windows yet. I would like to use features such as handwriting and video chat, neither of which are (properly) supported in the apps I have tried, including aMSN, Miranda, Pidgin and so on.

 

tbh i just stick to irc these days, although now you mention icq im amazd i can still remember my icq number

What's wrong with pigeon messenger? I ask you, the youth of today don't know how good they've got it.

 

I've used messenger since.. 2002/2003 I suppose, and the whole time it's gone down hill. I've tried some alternatives as well, but they haven't seemed any better.

And what's the Windows Live-bs all about? Does someone actually /USE/ it? I've seen some scattered profiles, but none of it makes any sense. You can't really challenge facebook in that sorta stuff, so why bother even giving it the half-arsed try?

Really I mainly have messenger on to notify me of email (yeah I use hotmail). IRC is for chatting.

I've recently moved over to Trillion as I was sick of MSN. But I miss the emotes of msn. You could just add your own .gifs files to it. If you can do that on Trillion I haven't found out how..

Maybe I should try Pidgin.

 

I use Xfire for chat and voice now, much more useful as a gamer than MSN.

Added my MSN account into the Social Network manager so I can still keep in contact with my friends who insist on still using MSN.

 

I just use the mess patch to remove the crap from MSN - without it it's almost as good as the original messenger from way back when, but with a nicer look.

 

Last time I tried that patch on MSN it killed the application

 

over time, the mess patch got even worse than msn. I think Avira doesn't even let me download it anymore

 

Meh that's what steam is for
