ok, my aunt brought me this old IBM 300PL, its a pentium 2 @ 300mhz, with 32mb ram and a 4 gig HDD. the cases panels are all made of plastic, no metal at all on any panel, but metal chassis. here are some pics...

the only good thing about the case is the handy handle on top

    need some ideas!!

OMG, is the processor sitting on the bottom front? This must be where the BTX inspiration came from. Damn marketing people, nothing's ever new, just forgotten and reintroduced.

didnt you hear? theres no new ideas anymore, just ripoffs of stuff youve never heard of, so you think some things are new, but there not.

Love the case, wouldn't mind seeing more of the actual mobo and maybe the back I/O pannel. As for mod ideas, why not remove that front grill and put in either a back-lit tinted window (painting the case black), or a nice little LCD that fills out that area. A couple more fans would be a good idea too.

    thats scarily BTX :blah:

how about replacing all the perforated plastic with modders mesh and put plexi behind the mesh in certain places to keep the air managment. Also it's IBM so you need THINK in big letters somwhere and also the blue beast should emit blooooo :hip:

What the hell form factor is that anyway? Looks like it has a slot for a riser card but its in the wrong place for an LPX board.

I must say that I do like the design of those old IBM cases though. At least they were doing something a little different from the flat beige box and that is REALLY sensible placement for the power button and indicator LEDs given that most users put their cases on the floor.

umm ideas... A window (Of course) find a unique design and have blue lights inside with 1. better mobo 2. overclock the mobo. then paint it and redo the front panel.

I have the same components, and quess what. I'll turn them into art and useful pieces. CPU: keychain | CPU box: paperweight | Mobo, just the circuit board: I'll hang it on the wall with cathodes at the back. So I suggest you to try the same. Or keep the PC in a shelf for the bad day, when the modern pc's stop working for some reason.

:hehe: i've actually worked on a case like this one, a while ago, first off, it'll look 100%better balck, and a window with fan will not only look good but will improove on the airflow in the case, cause i know for a fact that this case almost air tight.

i think i might save this one for a while till i think up something to do with it, like a themed case idea. the problem with it is that its entirely plastic panels, its fairly soft, cheap plastic too, so its not very good for modding. its more one of those ones you turn into a " wow, i couldnt tell thats a computer!" type thing, not so much a cool looking case that most modders have. if i think hard enough, ill get a sweet idea.

Hows' this: Stuff the mobo and some other stuff into a folder and the rest inside
some big books(Lotr trilogy, starwars trilogy....) and carry them all with you in a bag. If you manage to do it well, no one would ever think a pile of books is a pc, unless they see the wires ofcourse.

If you'd do it yourself, it wouldn't get that pricey. Cause a small can of chrome spray is in my local DIY strore(brico) like 2.50€

Well, from the looks of it, theres enough room in there for a micro-atx board. Buy yourself a mobo tray (or make one yourself) for m-atx, and find a way to put it in. I wouldn't agree with a side window, since it'd be hard to mesh the flat window into that textured siding. Instead, I'd paint the textured portions black (or vinyl dye, whatever) and paint the upper front bezel something to make it stand out. The top handle is cool . . . cut out the plastic circle under it and make THAT the window looking in. You could also put in a lighted CD-Rom window under it.

d00d, is that an e-machines I see in the background? For shame!

I am for somereason thinkg that you should find a way to replace the sides on the right and left and get black tinted plexi anmd put ut there with cool screws on each four corners and the vinyl die the top black then vinyl the front also and on the right side looking from the front polish all the metal behind the plexi so you can see it through the tinted plexi and amybe get a new mobo and get some nice lighting scheme

Hmm... definitely do black vinyl dye, and maybe do some chrome on the ribbing on the sides and top. On the front where the panel drops back like an inch or two, maybe do the IBM logo as a semi-window, slotted, like this:
Then, stick a blue CCFL or blue LEDs back behind it and that would look pretty tight. Then, I might consider replacing the power and/or HDD LEDs with blue ones as well, to keep the color scheme going.

i like that idea, but if i paint it black, it wont look textured anymore. maybe if i paint it a dark grey, that way you can see the lines on the sides, and paint the raised part a school bus yellow, itl look sweet. and a window, of course.

and hey, my dad bought that emachines back in like 1999, before i even knew how to format a HDD, so cut me some slack!
