    Hey Guys,

    I have recently received a Phenom II X4 940 PC unit with 8gb ddr2, 500gb HD, and a ATI 4550.
I mean this PC runs fine and is a decent PC, but i need to invest whilst i have the money for something that will be "futureproof". Is it worth it?

I would be looking at 1155 socket PC, with 8GB ddr3, and SSD/HDD with something like a 7000 series ati or a 500 series Nvidia, but is it really worth upgrading that much form what i have atm?

I mean i know i need to upgrade the Graphics card any ways so some help on that would be useful, around about the 150-200 pound mark.

I also was wondering if it was worth watercooling as id want to overclock either my current or new pc to run it on a new samsung 32" LED tv on HD settings, games, HD encoding etc?

    Thanks for any advice guys

    Ste

What do you use your PC for? Depending on teh answer... futureproofing may be expensive... and so long as you understand "future" means a couple of years.. three at the most, especially if you game.

Personally, unless you do a lot f processor intensive stuff like video editing etc, I'd keep this rig and invest in the best possible GPU you can, and a 256GB or bigger, fast SSD for your boot drive.

Also.. what resolution is your monitor? If it's only 1920x1080, or 1920x1200 then a GTX670 will see you OK for a good while. If you have a 2560x1400 or 2560x1600 screen then you need a couple of 670s in SLI at least.

If you don't game at all, then what you have is fine for general use I'd say.

IMO keep it for now, as the Phenom has a lot of potential left yet, and upgrade when the next gen or two comes around.

1155 isn't the best thing to upgrade to currently (i think)

Obviously get a graphics card, like Pookey said a GTX670 will do you good for a long while!

I do game and its 1920x1080, and i have 2 SSDs 60gb Boot drive and a 120GB Gaming drive, so i dont really need a SSD, but ill try and find a 670gtx,

Where would be the best place to look for one of them??

I think you should just keep it and possibly upgrade the graphics card in the future. You said you want to run it on your TV. TV's usually have a 1920x1080 resolution since 1080p's the latest must-have so 670 is a good call.

I expect something nice from AMD in terms of desktop CPUs in the future as they improve their new architecture, and Intel's also on their normal track of getting better. Unless you're experiencing performance issues or you have a bunch of extra cash laying around I'd just hold on to what you've got.

As others have said, keep it, buy an ssd and new graphics. My 560ti handles 1080p fine for everything I've thrown at it.

QFT, keep it and upgrade the graphisc if you plan on gaming. Upgrading to a SSD is nice as well. :)
