Ok I'm looking to spend about £1000-£1100 on my PC, primarily for gaming.

Current specs are 4GB of RAM, Intel Q6600,

So far I've selected the following which come out to about £1100, the only thing I'm really unsure about is the graphics card as I selected it after reading a fairly good review on Hexus as it overclocks close to 780 speeds for £260, so any input would be appreciated.

    CPU: Intel i5 4670K
Mobo: Either - Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP or MSI Z87-G45 GAMING
RAM: 4x4GB Quad channel Corsair Vengeanance 2133mhz
    GPU: 3GB Sapphire Radeon R9 280X TOXIC
PSU: 750W XFX Pro Black Edition
HDD: 1x 250GB Samsung 840 EVO Basic SSD

    I would go FX 83X0, Saber 990FX and a Radeon R 290 pro.

Issue other than price with the 290 is a lack of custom coolers so far, the cards cost about £50 more than the 280X cards and as I say that 280x GPU can go toe to toe with a 780GTX when overclocked.

That's a pretty good component list. Pretty well rounded. The only criticism I have is the choice of RAM. You only need a dual channel kit, so getting a 2x8GB kit would be fine. It'll also mean you can expand in the future if you so need. I'd also drop down to 1600MHz ddr3 as its cheaper. Most games don't benefit from super fast ram. (Although there are some signs that BF4 does)

Then wait for a custom cooler.

I've bought into the "And when it's overclocked" thing too many times only to find I lost the lottery and I'm stuck with an inferior card.

It won't be long now before the AIB partners start introducing their own coolers.

Your build is nice will last forever in the current pc sector. Id avoid the r290 series till they release custom coolers which reduce the noise levels.

280x is also a very nice gpu for the cash it costs and should allow a well rounded system.

That saphire card is already pre overclocked to the levels hes talking about andy btw.

Only thing you dont need is quad channel memory so you could save some cash there if you want 16gb then buy 2x8gb sticks for about half the cost of quad channel.

Cheers for the input, the only thing bugging me is whether a GTX 770 would be better?

Depends on the games you play and what you intend to play. 280x is basically a 7970ghz edition called something else. So plenty of reviews to show the differences.
