You know his concern about kids playing violent video games is valid. It's surprising but from my own experience parents that are weary of letting their kids watch overage movies just don't have the knowlege of video games to realise GTA is not really suitable for a 10 year old.

Now this ties in with the other argument of whether video games can act to mould young minds but regardless why have a rating system for movies or games if you are not going to bother policing it effectively.

I think its the parents, environment and friends of these kids that are moulding there minds. If a kids dad is beating him up every day and he goes and kills a few people chances are the media and public will blame it on a game or some rock band, its the easy way out and then means 'we' are not to blame... 'we' should be getting to the route of the problem insteading of lieing to ourselves.
No offence but the U.S has some twisted views on stuff, like guns, if it was illegal for the general public to have guns I think youd see a lot less shootings.

Its pretty damn hard to shoot somone without a gun, thats a pretty solid argument :thumb:

Blame the parents and society, not the people creating violent media.

Might help if these parents didnt keep big ass guns in there sock draw :p

That PS3 pic is pretty impressive. It will be interesting to see if any games are actually able to use it to its full potential!

I can't wait to see how things turn out with both of these sets. Everything I've read makes the PS3 look way better, at least on paper, but I'm sure both systems will wind up pretty cool.

I wonder if my existing Xbox games will look better on the new machine? If so, I can't wait to pwn some hi-res rounds of Galaga on my HDTV! (possibly while watching the simpsons and reading slashdot at the same time!)

*sigh* Jack Thompson makes me tired.

    1) To all you guys across the pond who say that it makes no sense to have a rating system and not enforce it, you're exactly right. Our country suffers much too often from the idea of "Suggestion." That putting an 'M' on a label will mean that parents take note and look for the game, or that (even more stupid) kids won't buy it because they know it's inappropriate for them.

    2) Maybe if Jack stopped insulting every gamer, their families, and their lineage, he would realize that most of us agree with him on his main point. It's his conspiracy theories and circular logic of columbine and 'video games = violence' that exhaust us. Look, if he came out nicer and said "Let's try to control adult material to minors," he would have had support. Instead, he makes an ass out of himself. He could do himself a big favor by just shutting up with the childish insults and instead focus on his main point.

    3) Don't EVER call the man sane. Have you guys READ what's happening with Penny Arcade because of him?! He's a looney-tune with a loaded weapon, and just because he has one good point in the bunch doesn't make him a hero. His erratic, whimsical, and threatening behavior deserves psychiatric evaluation.

His concern is valid, yes, but who is shifting the blame onto isn't. He is blaming the game producers and the gamers.

Hey no one called him a hero, mearly in one regard he has a valid concern. To tell you the truth I don't know much about this guy so I'm not sure what to think of him. I was just responding to a couple of quotes from the interview.
