I have Sky broadband and while the default Sagem router isn't bad, much improved over the previous netgear models so I hear, the wireless range is quite poor as well as lacking in features.

I live in a new build apartment/flat so even the interior walls are quite well insulated, and the router is at one end and I usually sit at the other on wireless devices.

I have got my hands on a Vigor 120 modem (and the sky Username and Password to use it, I know about Sky's Ts & Cs), so now my choice of routers have been blown wide open, either adsl or cable with the Vigor.

Any suggestions for a decent router with gigabit networking and wireless N, around or under £60. I don't mind buying used or building something, I vaguely remember someone posting about a DIY router kit without the casing etc, looked interesting :D

Billion's routers tend to be over the £100 mark for wireless-N, though they are without a doubt the best your money can buy for consumer-grade networking. D-link perhaps? I hear good things about their reliability too.

I'd run a seperate GB Switch and just get a basic router with wireless-n.

Then you can upgrade/change router int eh future and not have to worry about what connections it has again.

I use a Buffalo N300 for the same thing with my existing Sky router and it's been spot on. It doesn't have gigabit ports but it's been rock solid, easy to set up and is compatible with DD-WRT, though I haven't felt the need to switch to it. It's also cheap as chips, and can be found for about £20.

Get the Asus RT-N56U. I've only seen rave reviews for it, it's the one I'm buying.

Cheers for the replies guys, I will check them all out when I get home.

I do actually have a gigabit switch which I am using now, but I would rather consolidate devices especially as I would be adding a separate modem to the mix. Plus I am running out of plug sockets and I don't want to add any more cables, my original awesome cable tidying is slowly falling apart due to recent changes.

DD-WRT is a bonus for me, I ran it on my parent's D-Link from VM and it turned a POS router into a bit of a beast which never skips a beat and the only time it has been off in the past year or so was to change over an extension cable.

    wr1043nd + openwrt.

I'd stay away from draft-n routers as far as possible.

I might up my budget and get a Billion BIPAC 7800N as it has everything I need and I won't even need a separate modem. I will have to wait another week or so so I can save up my weekly spending budget, I would call it pocket money but it seems strange giving myself pocket money...

Cheers for all the input guys, I have looked at every router suggested and I have to say they are all great choices in various way :thumb:
