My latest (and 4th) Belkin router has died on me. Amazingly I've kept buying Belkin even though they fail after about a year. I'm on BT (ADSL) so I obviously need a router but I don't want to go Belkin. I'd like it to have 5ghz dual band wireless N Any suggestions? Thanks
I had this same dilemna a few weeks back: Original thread to see what was concluded. Basically, good 'high-end' ADSL routers are few and far between unless you're willing to spend a little... Although seeing as your criteria are a little less strict than mine were, you might be able to get away with something a little less techy! TSB
I would suggest getting a separate router and modem. This way you can put DD-WRT on the router as DD-WRT at the moment does not support modems. Along that line, get a router that DD-WRT actually supports. You can see the supported list here. Also, get a router with gigabit Ethernet. Always a useful feature. And I recommend Netgear.
Cisco, the king of networking. Their consumer brand is Linksys, the fam has always used Linksys, they are quite dependable in our experience. Also, I dont think I've ever heard anything bad about Netgear.
didnt pcpro's current issue have a huge router roundup thing and lots of reviews on them? if i am right, might be worth a cheeky read to help?
Anything netgear tbh, they are excellent. Although others may prefer Linksys I've had my fair share of issues with Linksys but perhaps I'm just unlucky. Dual wireless N means you will pay more but it may well be a bit more futureproof. Do you really need Dual band? You only really get an advantage if you suffer from signal dropouts and it's almost double the price of standard routers.
Thanks for the info guys, looks like it's either a netgear or a linksys. Thanks for the PCPRO artcicle and especially the info about dual band, MrWillyWonka.
Billion make some good routers too. I'm happy with my 7800N. Doesn't crap out with more than one wireless device like my old Netgear did, for one. Very configurable and even has IPv6 support for the future.
I have the WNR3500L, great router, easy to setup and is pretty much bullet proof so far (1.5 years old).
