Hi all, Attempting to build my own SFF gaming pc, would appreciate any insight/advice from you folks. Mainly i'm concerned if the motherboard is suited for the cpu , and if there are better options for the graphics card that is cheaper than say at gtx 560 ti. I'm actually not biased towards AMD / Nvidia for the graphics, but I read that there seems to be better compatibility in using Nvidia with Intel CPU , and AMD graphics with AMD cpus ? Case: Silverstone SG07B CPU: i5 2500K LGA 1155 Mobo: Gigabyte H55N-USB3 Graphics: Gigabyte GV-N460OC GTX460 1gb Ram: Gskill 4GB 1600 DDR3 Heatsink: Thermalright AXP-140 Heatsink Fan: Noctua NF-P12 HeatSink Fan HD: Seagate Baraccuda 1TB Thanks in advance!
Thats an LGA 1156 socket mobo so it wont be compatible with second generation i3/5/7's unfortunately. If you're after a Sandybridge miniITX mobo Im sure theres been threads on here about them
Hey Mate. The motherboard it the wrong type. It's a H55 chipset (socket 1156) You are looking for either a H67 or if you want to overclock a P67 board (I presume you do becasue you have the K chip.) You have speced a 460 GTX instead of a 560Ti more card to consider are the following 560 GTX-Starting at 145 pounds (Scan) 6870-Starting a 127 pounds (Aria) 5850 starting at 100 pounds What res will you be playing at? I would swap the fan out for a scythe gentle typhoon as it has more static pressure hence suited to a heatsink more than the Noctua What is your final budget and what will it be used for? Do you have a PSU yet? Here is a decent board that should suit your needs. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...-e-20-x16-ddr3-2133-2200-sata-6gb-s-raid-matx I wouldn't normally recommend tat board but i cant find a mini atx one from msi
Ok to to clear up a few points, 1. The SG07 is an ITX chassis. 2. You’ll therefore need an ITX mobo. However if you want to use a Sandybridge (i5-2500k) chip, you’ll need an H67, P67 or Z67 motherboard. The difference between these is that H67 contains an integrated GPU, the P67 allows overclocking and the Z68 allows both. 3. However, there are currently no P67 or Z68 ITX motherboards on the UK market so if you want to build a Sandybridge machine in the SG07 your only option is to forgo overclocking and buy an H67 motherboard – in my opinion a shame since the Sandybridge chip has fantastic overclocking potential 4. That board that Murray has suggested, while a good board, won’t fit in the chassis as it is Micro ATX. 5. I recommend this one from Aria 6. The SG07 comes with a very good bronze rated 600w PSU built in. 7. There is not 'better compatibility' between intel CPUs and NVidia cards, or vice versa. All AMD CPUs, Intel CPUs, Nvidia GPUs and ATI/AMD GPUs work together in perfect harmony. 8. You've chosen the Gigabyte GV-N460OC GTX460 - which is a fine card for about £120. However, if I were you, I'd be focusing purely on cards that exhaust 100% of their hot air out of the back of the chassis. The SG07 is very small and can get very hot very quickly, particularly if you have a GPU dumping 300w of heat straight into the case.
Thanks for the clarifications guys, I knew something was fishy somewhere in that set up... Graphics card wise, I'm willing to spend a little more if it's worth it, but not too far a leap.. From what i read, the gtx 460 seems to be one of the best for it's price value. I play on a 24" monitor, so I guess max resolution would be 1920x1200 , though I'd go for 1680 with full anti aliasing if that would yield the prettiest graphics at decent performance.. I think maybe it would be wise to wait a couple of months for some mobo updates... I read that gigabyte have dumped the p67 and are moving forward with z68.. Parge: any recommendations for the type of graphics cards that you described ? Thanks for all the corrections/feedback! I greatly appreciate it!
Thanks all for the feedback and corrections, i knew something was amiss, because that was a mobo I read favorably about, few months back... Thanks for pointing out the incompatibility. I have a budget of about 1000 usd, reason why I chose the gtx 460 was because reviews seem to point it as one of the best value for performance card around.. ( and I was sure that it would fit and work with the sg07 and it's psu ) .. I'm ope to suggestions really, I read about the 560 ti, it's quite abit more expensive but apparently not all that much faster ? The machine is meant for gaming on my 24 inch monitor, hoping to get the prettiest graphics at maybe 1600 or even 1920x1200 ... From the looks of it, it seems I may be better off waiting a couple of months for new motherboards to be released .. I know gigabyte ditched the p67 and asre not working on the z68s ... thanks alot for the insight guys.
