You using it over at Spout Hall, Herbs? Any Good? I see they've changed the kernal, given it a fansy splash screen and changed the web admin page colour scheme. Anything else?
Not using it as yet, but I think I may give it a try tonight. Only 20 min install if I dont like I will go back to ipcop beta4. That kernal should allow for stateful packet filtering (iptables), which is better than stateless filtering of the old smoothwall.
Only you can decide m8, I'm currently using a beta of ipcop and it works fine for me, but others are having problems.
i think ill wait, as otherwise i have to take the smoothwall machine down of the wall, attach a cdrom, monitor, keyboard, mouse and burn the new iso before being able to install, and that would be a lot of effort, which i would have to do all over again, once the proper version comes out...
a bit OT, but herbs, if you are using dialup that is, do you ever have the problem of the modem actually being disconnected but it still saying connected with the time on the main page? Then you cant fix it without a reboot or going into the shell and killing the right things.
Soz im on adsl, cant help you there. You could try a post to the smoothwall newsgroup, I'm sure someone will help you there.
Does anyone use smoothwall while using p2p programs like edonkey etc ? I found that smoothwall only allowed 256 connections per ip which edonkey really didn't like since it tries to make loads of connections all over the place once you have a few things in your download queue. Col H.
I use edonkey on ipcop a smoothwall fork and it works fine, the only problem is that i wont open ports so i get a lo id, I have set my connection box to 450 ok
that sounds a bit more hopefull, think i may give it a try again. That was the only thing stopping me using smoothwall since i would be getting 100k/s+ using winroute but i'd be struggling to get 10k/s since it couldn't get the connections. i'll dig the old p100 out again and configure it up Cheers Col H.
