If you don't do it the correct way ^ then you can end up in an endless loop of it refusing to boot, ie if you just set bios to AHCI without changing anything in windows, windows 7 can then poo itself and doesn't know what to do.

    1. Startup "Regedit
    2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
    3. Open msahci
    4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
    5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
    6. exit "Regedit"

Your SATA controller should always be on AHCI with anything newer than Windows XP.
AHCI will boost your HDD performance visibly, and of course TRIM support for your SSD.

Once you switch to AHCI mode in your BIOS, and in Windows (Windows first, so that you don't get a BSOD as explained above). You don't have anything to do. Your system will be operating correctly.

If I boot up from the windows disk and have the bios set to ahci would this be easier as I don't know what iam doing messing around with the settings you said because if I get if wrong could I do more harm.if I do as I said above windows will install right drivers is this correct.

ahci is a controller so when you motherboard POSTS you should now see a last 1 device listed under AHCI screen.

HDD`s dont gain as much from AHCI than SSD`s do
